Random thoughts...

Tremendous defensive efforts by both teams

Peyton Manning's skills are definitely declining. I'm glad he got another Superbowl win. He'd be smart to retire.

Cam Newton, despite being a great athlete, turned out to be a petulant baby.

Von Miller deserved that MVP award.

Puggymonkeybaby was the weirdest commercial, but it has people still talking about it.

Cold Play was good, Bruno Mars was great, and I don't get the fascination with Beyonce. She's beautiful to look at though.

As Carlos Santana pointed out, it would have been great to feature some local iconic bands, such as his, Journey, Metallica, Tower of Power, etc.

I didn't see much of the game.  Didn't watch the halftime show.  One of the few commercials I saw was for Budweiser and I hated it.  Bring back the Clydesdale, the puppy, and the cowboy!

Not impressed with the commercials this year. The previous years were so much better. I did like the wiener dogs and the sheep singing a Queen song. The rest were definitely not worth what they paid to air them on Super Bowl. Lady Gaga did a great job with the Anthem before the game. People younger than me may have liked the halftime show, but again not going to run and buy their music. Better in the past.

Pretty boring game. There was basically ZERO excitement/offense.

Awful halftime show by Coldplay and Beyonce. Yes, they should have at least had Journey and maybe another local bigtime band. Whoever made the halftime entertainment decision blew it.

Cam Newton's post-game comments reminded me of 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick. Just sitting there giving short, terse answers like a pouting spoiled brat. Both of those guys have no class.

Just an all-around lousy Super Bowl experience. Luckily, the beer was cold and the food was great.

It was a terrible game that neither team seemed to want to win. Manning looked gassed out there and should have hung it up on the field immediately after the game. He has nothing left to prove.

Cam Newton on the national spotlight looked like a crybaby. He's a gifted athlete and needs to grow up. I'm sure he'll be back. Though I thought that about Kap and the 49ers...

Commercials are always more hype than substance. The usual kings of commercials - Bud Light, Geico, etc were nonexistent, though I liked the Doritos ad. My favorite was the Heinz commercial with the wiener dogs.

Coldplay was better than I expected, and I liked how they added the crowd in to it. Beyonce, I don't get the outrage over. So she was dressed as a Black Panther, so what? I have long thought that pop culture was simply a reflection of the times we live in, and nothing more. She was making a statement. It forced us to talk. It worked.

Gaga killed it, too.

As a 30 year Bronco fan, I thought the game was great!  ;)  I generally don't like the hype around the Superbowl. I usually don't watch the halftime show. I have finally resorted to skipping the commercials as they seem to be pretty low on the entertainment scale the past several years

So I guess for me, the game was all about defense. Call me old school, but I like smash mouth football where the guys in the trenches are the stars. Too much showboating by "skill" positions gets annoying.  Love to see defensive big men score. I also love to see kickers/punters lay the wood to a returner. Again, kinda old school. The rest of the stuff I could do without (commercials and halftime). just give me a good game.

Cam was a big baby and certainly not what the league was looking for in their MVP winner. Hey Cam, check out Manning's interview after his got his arse handed to him 2 years ago. That is how you handle adversity. You want to dab and joke and dance when it's good? You got to man up when it's bad.

Hopefully next year the half time show will let the featured band play their music with out other musicians interfering.   It would have been nice to have a S.F. Bay Area Band.       Next year hopefully rock and roll.

Metallica or Green Day would have been great Bay Area headliners. Metallica in fact had a "Too Hard for Halftime" concert at AT&T Park the night before.

Super Bowl now charges performers to play halftime, which is probably why Coldplay was the headliner. The Super Bowl stopped being about fans some time ago, all decisions are made by the dollar sign.

The commercials shown during the Westminster dog show were much more entertaining than anything shown during the Super Bowl.

Wait...do you mean that lady gags, cold play and Beyoncé paid to perform at the Super Bowl?!

Performers don't get paid, but their expenses are covered:

The Super Bowl Halftime Show is one of the biggest platforms in the world to promote yourself as an artist. So, what do performers like Coldplay and Beyonce make for taking on such a big gig? ZERO. They DO NOT get paid. NFL spokesperson Joanna Hunter explained to Forbes that: We do not pay the artists. We cover expenses and production costs.

But, production costs can range anywhere from a few hundred thousands to upwards of $10 million. As the Super Bowl reaches over 100 million viewers, the opportunity to perform at the halftime show serves as a free commercial for headlining acts. For example, this year’s headliner is the band Coldplay. They are kicking off their seventh tour in March 2016 and playing at the Super Bowl is a great way to pump up ticket sales.

It sounds like this is what the NFL wanted, but it went over like a lead football:

"Ever since the National Football League first proposed that performers pay to play the Super Bowl halftime show, music and football fans alike have been curious about what’s happening behind closed doors in the lead up to one of the world’s biggest sporting events. At the time, in 2014, the NFL was seeking a performance from Coldplay, Katy Perry, or Rihanna. All three rejected the NFL’s initial terms, and Katy Perry ended up with the spot through traditional means – that is, playing for free, with the NFL covering production and travel costs."

interesting... thanks for posting this. I still think the NFL is offensively poor about how they operate the Super Bowl. For one, they don't allow anyone to advertise the words "Super Bowl" without paying the NFL (really???). What really irks me is that they have watered down the SB logos. What used to be creative, interesting, and notable designs indicative of a time in history, are now bland and cookie-cuttered. It's likely so they can reproduce merchandise and like materials cheaper, but what they don't realize is they have effectively watered down the brand.
