Community: Folsom Police Arrest Bank Robber

Dear Steve Heard,

On Thursday, May 4th, Folsom Police Detectives led by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) arrested a Sacramento man for allegedly robbing the El Dorado Savings Bank, located at 300 East Bidwell Street, on April 20th.  The arrest as a result of the Folsom bank robbery lead to the solving of additional bank robberies in the Bay Area as far back at 1995.

The SIU Detectives arrested Clayton Smith, 44 years old, in Rancho Cordova, Thursday morning.  After the arrest, Detectives were able to link Smith with at least three additional bank robberies that occurred in the Bay Area this year and two others that occurred in 1995.

Det. Monsoor, who was the lead Investigator on the case, said, “This was a swift and successful investigation that lead to the arrest of Smith.  The success of this investigation will help in preventing any additional banks from being robbed.  This investigation led to the closure of at least five unsolved bank robberies in other jurisdictions throughout Northern California.”

Folsom Police are now working with the F.B.I. along with the Bay Area agencies to proceed further in the case.  They are also trying to determine if there are any other bank robberies that might be connected to Smith.

Smith was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on May 4th for the alleged robbery.  His bail is set at $1,000,000.
