Saturday, October 18,

it looks like Folsom will have something for everyone:

The day starts off with the 2nd annual Folsom Blues Breakout Half Marathon at 8am.  This prison/Johnny Cash-themed event is expected to draw over 3000 participants to run the 13.1 mile course, starting at the new Johnny Cash over-crossing, around Lake Natoma and ending at the Historic District. There’s a post-race festival featuring live music, beer, vendors and a free shuttle to the prison for photo ops.  More info: www.folsomblueshalf.org

The Folsom Renaissance Fair and Shakespeare Fesitval brings madness, mayhem and merriment to Lion’s Park both Saturday and Sunday. Ticket and more info at  www.folsomfaire.com

Want to have dinner with the police? Head on over to Vista Del Lago high school for an all-you-can-eat pasta feed. Proceed go to the Folsom Police Foundation and the The Folsom Police Foundation and the Citrus Heights Police Activities League.  Tickets are $10 for kids, $15 adults.

Last but not least, “Whole Lotta Brews“, the premier beer tasting event in Folsom will be an evening of beer and wine samplings from around the region along with gourmet food tastings from Whole Foods Market in-store vendors as well as local restaurants and caterers. The event features live music featuring the raw and sizzling sounds of The Old Screen Door. Proceeds benefit the Folsom Cordova Community Partnership.

The Folsom Police Foundation pasta feed is also going to have a great raffle!  I'm going to that one.  And its for a very good cause!

What is the cause?

The cause for the pasta feed is the new police foundation and for the Citrus Heights police youth activities.

well, its like this.  the FPD and the Citrus Heights PD are joining as a team on the Baker to Vegas law enforcement run coming up in a couple of months.  They paid their entrance fees, etc., and the idea of the pasta feed is to off-set the extra fees that come up (sag wagon rental, etc.).  The FPD going to use the race as a fund raiser to raise money for the youth programs in Folsom  that are associated with the police department, but don't have a budget to support.  This includes the Explorer program (for kids who want to learn more about law enforcement), the Fighting for Fitness after school program, and the summer week-long soccer camp.  The latter two programs are headed up by the FPD's School Resource Officers (SRO) and they usually have to pay or get donated all the supplies for those programs.  For example, the Fighting for Fitness program used to be held after school at the Folsom MMA gym, which is closing.  Now the officer in charge is moving the kids to a room at the junior high school, but they have to find all the equipment they need to keep the program going.  There is no money for this youth programs in the FPD's budget, so the Folsom Police Foundation is going to raise funds to help support these student programs.  Does that make sense?  None of the funds (other than this first pasta fund raiser) will go to any other community outside of Folsom.  The SROs are doing amazing work with at-risk kids and they do great work.  I think its awesome and that is why I'm going to the pasta feed and even donating a raffle item!

Just curious, why do you think it sounds uncivilized?

It's a charitable event, which are often filled with like minded people who are nice and friendly and believe in helping others.

As for what to wear, just remember, underwear goes inside the pants  ;)
