During a recent trip, I decided to use the service which is exclusively recommended by Sacramento International, because they featured an on-line reservation system.
My incorrect assumptions included:
- A service listed on the airports website would be quick, dependable, efficient
- The service would use safe, comfortable vehicles
- I could expect to be on my way home from the airport in a reasonable amount of time
I don't know why the "service" offers reservations at all, unless it's to provide their clients with something to do to pass the time. The service person in the shuttle booth stated that all transportation is on a first come, first served basis, and that he had no idea how long our wait might be. Travelers who simply walked up to the service booth acutally received service much quicker than my group and me.
Although a sign posted on the shuttle service booth states that the maximum waiting period is 30 minutes, our waiting period was almost an hour from the second time I notified the service person that we had arrived, and had picked up our luggage.
I found a white service phone in the terminal, which allows travelers to connect to various airport services. Although it posts a listing for the shuttle service described herein, no connection could be made - the phone simply rang and rang, with no answer, no recording, nada, zip, zilch.
After finally being loaded in to a shuttle van, I was not impressed with its condition. The windshield had a crack which extended over half the length of the windshied, the van could have used a good cleansing, and the front suspension had a vibration that shook the front passenger seat as if were possessed. I noted that the drivers arm vibrated at approximately the same frequency as the front passenger seat, and the vibration could be felt by the passengers as well. The vibration seemed to lessen at a certain speed, then resume to full-force at or near the speed limit. I hoped that a front tire was out of balance, or out of round, and that it wan't actually loose on the lug bolts, as we proceeded down Highway 50 at, or near, the speed limit.
Another service available in the Folsom area is Folsom Lake Express. I've used their services several times over the past few years, and the service, quality, courtesy, and punctuality have all been first-rate.
The service provided by the airports recommended shuttle was a learning experience....I learned that I won't be using it again.....
