Hey Folks,

FYI, there's someone, presumably homeless, living in a tent below the bridge at the Lake Natoma Waterfront and Trail Access.

There is also human waste and toilet paper on the trail itself. Not next to the trail. Not hidden in the brush off the trail, but directly ON the trail, toilet paper and all, in several spots.

I don't know if the same person is responsible, but they are in very close proximity.

My wife goes on walks on our trails without me, and we just eliminated that spot for safety reasons.

I've called Folsom PD, State Parks and HART of Folsom. If the guy needs help, maybe they'll get hims some. In the mean time, beware.

Please don't get political and blame the left or right.

This is what happens when many people say, "it's ok.. who are we to tell people how to live and behave?". Enjoy!! Thanks for the tip.

Wow! You kept it civil! Proud moment.

It goes deeper than that. There are many causes for homelessness, not just the economy, not just choice, but drugs, alcohol, and mental illness, too.  Unfortunately, we can't force the mentally ill into institutions unless they are physically harming themselves or others, so they end up on the streets. Same with the druggies and drunks. We can't force them into treatment.

The ones homeless by choice should be made to move off of public property.

The ones there due to the economy are the ones we are most likely able to help and to motivate.

Complicated issue.

Wondering how you can blame the economy for the homeless?   I could understand if there was a huge recession....  Anyway, I have dealt with a lot of homeless over the years, and there is definitely a change. The percentage of "crazy", the percentage of "unfortunate" have not changed. The percentage of "lifestyle" street campers has exploded.  Lax theft laws combined with lax drug laws have created an explosion of addicts living their drug addict life on the streets. Those are the ones defecating in public and they DO NOT WANT services when offered.

I highly recommend Seattle is Dying. It's what investigative reporting used to be. Very well done. They interview homeless, homeless advocates, business owners, police, politicians and other state agencies.  An hour well spent if you want to understand the bum explosion.

Those who blame the economy cite the fact that wages are not keeping up with rent increases. For example, Nationally, average rents were up 30% between 2008 and 2018, but wages were only 3.4%.

This has forced some people onto the streets, or so says the homeless advocates.

My guess is that most of the homeless are not out there because of the economy, but that's the easy factor to blame.

I started watching 'Seattle is dying' months ago, then got distracted. Thanks for the reminder.
