We are looking at homes in the 900K - 1.1 range, what are some nice areas to look at taking into consideration the commute issues. We also noticed that prices in the folsom area have not exploded to the same extent that the East Roseville prices have - still able to find houses in the 220-250/sq. ft range here with some nice lot sizes. East Roseville has pretty small lots and 250-300/sq.ft average.
thanks for the advice

Took a job at Kaiser in Roseville - was originally going to buy a house in East Roseville then I started looking at Folsom. Commute from North Folsom to Roseville didn't look too bad on the map - how is it in real life? My wife works at the Kaiser in South Sac - what's the shortest way from folsom to south sac? through the elk grove backroads?

The commute from North Folsom to Kaiser in Roseville is a pretty easy one, and goes counter to the regular commute. It can have its moments, but the drive is short, and you really only have to drive 3 streets; Folsom/Auburn, Douglas, and Eureka. Some take Eureka right off of Folsom/Auburn. There is less traffic, but there is a school, and a narrow road with a number of stop signs.
The commute to South Sac isn't as much fun. 50 gets crowded, and much of the backroad route is one lane, so it can be tedious.
You can do pretty well in the $900K to $1.1M range. That end of the market has softened quite a bit, and there are some bargains, if you can call $1million a bargain.
I'd be glad to talk to you about it. I am a realtor and mortgage consultant with Bentley Mortgage/Gold Lake Real Estate, and have sold or financed homes for many myfolsom.com members, and fairly recently, a doctor at Kaiser Roseville.

you may be interested in home in the amercian river area. you would be on granite bay side of folsom, easy down to 50 for your wife and down folsom-auburn for you.
i specialize in that area of folsom as a realtor with Keller Williams. I would be happy to work with you.

Same thing. American River Canyon North or even Granite Bay. I live in ARCN and you can cut through Santa Juanita/Barton Rd. and be on Douglas in no time. It's a fabulous area and easy to access Granite Bay, Folsom, and Roseville.
I assume at 55mph like most people.

For the price range you mentioned you must check out Hillcrest in Empire Ranch. The houses are beautiful custom homes, gated community, great location and awesome views.
there is a beautiful lot for sale up there on misty ridge.

I love that area, but don't you think one could get more for the money on the North side?

when will the bridge be built ? at that time, what sort of commute should one expecT?
I think the bridge is still a few years away. There is a plan to open Dam road to people who pay some sort of permit fee to cross it.
Figure on about 20 minutes to get from the Easternmost points in Folsom to get across the bridge. The problem is you are down to one lane on Natoma or Riley, or you work your way down to Folsom Blvd which is crowded with people headed to 50 or coming in off of 50.
It's nothing compared to Bay Area commutes, or even the commute to downtown Sac, but it's something Folsomites hadn't been used to.

I believe the City newsletter said they plan on having it open, at the latest, by December 2008.
