Why.....?   Well progressives started to complain about the big tax break Amazon got as an incentive to move there so they went on the war path....!  Result, no move, no jobs, zero taxes for the public coffers in New York....!   Way to go....!   Great job liberals, democrats, progressives, you killed the Golden Goose that was going to nest in your fair (not so fair state actually) state.....!   Cut off your nose to spite your face once again...!   When will you learn that business and capitalism are not your enemy....?   And of course this theme I present you now will not be presented on MSNBC or CNN.  It will be ignored.....   Look over here folks, Russia collusion....!   Look here...!   Chris

New York mayor blasts Amazon for 'throwing away' the chance for an HQ in the city as the tech giant CANCELS its plans amid protests led by Democrat rising star Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over its huge company tax break and 'worker exploitation'

Amazon said on Thursday it was canceling its plans to build a headquarters in Long Island City in Queens
It is a stunning reversal to an ambitious plan that would have brought an estimated 25,000 jobs to the city
Amazon had faced fierce opposition from local politicians, including Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Critics were angered $3 billion in tax breaks and incentives Amazon was set to receive as part of the deal
Mayor Bill de Blasio, who had lobbied intensely to land the headquarters, slammed Amazon on Thursday for throwing away an opportunity
The retail giant announced its plans back in November to build the complex in Queens following a widely publicized search for its second headquarters
Amazon said on Thursday it did not plan to re-open the yearlong search that drew 238 proposals from cities across North America

I dunno.

Can anyone do the math?

They expect 25,000 jobs to be generated.

Figure $50,000 average annual income = $1,2 Billion payroll per year.

Figure 20% tax rate (Thanks, Mr. Trump) for federal taxes = $240 million federal tax per year.

State tax is probably under 10% of that, but let's be generous and call it 10% which equals $24 million per year.

$3 billion divided by $24 million - - It would take about 125 years to pay back the city,

assuming ALL the state revenue went to the city of NY.

Just doesn't make sense.      :CRAZYLOCO:           :KOOLAID:

Spend that money on the people!
Gee, maybe AOC is right!   Ha, ha!   :BNANADANCE:

I swear to God, you Democrats are the dumbest people alive. Why would the Mayor and Gov blame Amazon? Amazon was under assault by the leftist nutjobs of the Dem party in NY.. what else would you expect Amazon to do? Modern day leftists are semi-terrorists. The Dem party is imploding and they don't even know it. Now THAT is the definition of stupid. But keep it up.. Trump, and his MAGA supporters, LOVE IT..

Vin,

That's 24 million a year MORE than they would have had. They aren't taking money they HAVE and giving it to Amazon, they are reducing the future local tax liability for the company. So 80% of that billion dollar payroll (800 million) dollars a year would be pumped into the LOCAL economy AS WELL AS the 24 million more in taxes for the LOCAL government.  Instead, you get nothing. You must have gotten your Econ degree at the same school as AOC.

Really, you actually tried to justify this...?  Can't believe it..!   Is this "new math" or the "Common Core" math you progressives hold so dear that parents can't even figure out and go nuts trying to do homework with their kids...........?

Hollow points, Joe.

That $ 3 billion in tax cuts for a company worth almost One TRILLION dollars?!

I don't think so.

$24 million a year is chump change.

Yeah, a new generation of politicians like AOC is pushing for a "Green New Deal."

What a refreshing concept!

Chris, I noticed you didn't even TRY to do the math.

Home schooled? Or many just afraid to find the truth in the details.

Your numbers are meaningless emotional pablum.  That's 24 million in DIRECT tax to the state and 64 million in SALES tax directly to local government. AND that completely ignores the taxes and jobs for all the businesses that would support the equivalent of a small city. You know trades, janitorial, restaurants, entertainment, etc. Every one of them pays taxes, business license fees and employs people. Those people then pay all of the above taxes.

PLUS, you are employing 25k + people AND diversifying types of industry in the area.  I thought jobs were a good thing?

25000 jobs.... good paying jobs for Americans. That's what we should care about. Every day citizens paying their bills and getting ahead.

Is Vinny REALLY worried about New Yorks tax burden over the livelyhood of his fellow citizens????

Party politics over the needs of Americans....the motto of the liberal Democrat

Amazon will pay $0 in taxes on $11,200,000,000 in profit for 2018

Uhh! Let that sink in!

And ....?

Please tell me how this affects YOU Vinny.

Do you do ANYTHING in your life differently because of Amazon's tax rate? Do you buy anything, deny yourself anything, eat differently....or do you just sit and stew over something you have no power over?

And little vinnie was defending Obama's doubling of the historical national debt, saying it was "necessary". Such an uneducated tool, troll, and clown??

While I think they should be paying tax on profits, they do provide an EXCELLENT service and they do EMPLOY over 250k Americans. All those Americans buy stuff and pay taxes.

AOC celebrating the loss of 25k jobs was a shining example of what the "new" socialists stand for; a lack of understanding of human nature, economic realities, and elitist arrogance.

While Amazon would have received 3 billion in tax breaks over time, they would have GENERATED 27 billion in tax revenue over the same period. But yeah, let's focus on what the CEO makes...

:P

Please tell me how this affects YOU Vinny.

A concept that is hopefully not over your head:
That we are all one.

We are one spirit looking out of many eyes.

When one is abused, we all suffer.

"As you treat the least of these, my brothers, you are treating me."  Matt: 25:40

Sheesh!  $11 billion in profit in one year, and they need the taxes of working stiffs from Queens?

Gimme a break!

So...it doesn't affect you at all.

Thanks for confirming that your life isn't changed in ANY WAY AT ALL.

You spend what little time you have left in life worrying about things that you have absolutely no control over. When you finally leave this Earth, will your hand wringing have had ANY affect on Amazon and NY....or will you have spent your little time alive being miserable?

I'd really like an honest answer....but I'm afraid TDS won't allow you to.
