Community: Reported threat results in lockdown, arrest

The Folsom Police Department made an arrest today after a reported threat through text message, directed at Vista del Lago High School in Folsom. The reported threat also resulted in a temporary lockdown at the school. Students and staff were safe throughout the lockdown. Officers from the Folsom Police Department were sent to the school as an additional safety measure while other officers contacted the student who allegedly made the threat.

The student was not at the school and was contacted at a relative’s home. Although there is no indication he was planning to carry out the threat, investigators determined that his threat was criminal.  Ryan Bernal, 18, of Rancho Cordova, was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of making Criminal Threats.

This case is an important reminder that threats are taken seriously and investigated. These threats can result in arrest and prosecution.  “The safety of our schools is our highest priority. We will continue to fully investigate any report of threats, and take appropriate action,” said Sergeant Bill Bradshaw.

A photo of Bernal is attached.  No additional details about the incident are available at this time.

It will be like this for some time to come.  Not necessarily credible threats - being remote and calling them in for the kicks,  no unlike when we were in Middle and High School in the 60s and early 70s with the bomb threats... just now days- it is much easier to track the perp ...   ' Quick resolutions are welcome = thanks to the men and women ' in blue'... and others....   Oh BTW - another one in West Sac today and in EDH last week...

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

I'm glad they caught the guy and he's in jail (for now).  Hopefully he will stay there pending trial, then be convicted (if warranted) and remain in jail.

Yes, likely to see more making threats just for kicks and attention.

Hopefully they prosecute and make an example out of this.  There needs to be ZERO tolerance for this to deter any other "copy-cat" type issues.  Show these knuckleheads the school and the district mean business.
