Changes On Natoma Station Drive

Also there is a sign on Natoma Station drive just west of Turnpike and Natoma Station Drive indicating something about bike trail improvements - what improvements are they making?
What else is going on as part of these improvements?
I looked for a thread, all I found was an old one.

One of the stupidest things I have ever seen. Can't wait for the car crashes and ensuing lawsuits.

My friend is a teacher there at the school and he said they are connecting the existing bike trails to meet up with the trail across Folsom Blvd. And they are also expanding the drive-thru kid drop off as well. I guess it's way more busy than they ever expected. We have basketball there every Sat and it looks like it's been under construction for a while now.

Curb bump-outs, to my knowledge, are used to slow down traffic by narrowing the street and alerting drivers to the potential for pedestrians and bicyclists.
If anything, there should be fewer crashes.
They put one on Willow Creek at BT Collins Park, and although unattractive, they do seem to get people to slow a bit coming down that hill.

It's not stupid at all.
It's a "road diet" where the road will go down to one lane from two, so they aren't going to be in traffic lanes. Bump outs do slow traffic and are very effective. I saw the plans years ago when they applied for the grant and I wrote a letter of support for the project. One really nice facet of the plan is that it's going to provide a protected drop-off area on NSD for the school. This will not only lighten up the traffic on Turn Pike and Ashcat, but also lower the number of the stupid U-turns parents make in the school area since they won't need to leave NSD to drop off their student(s). (Little reminder: U-turns in school zones are dangerous.)

speaking of old lawsuites. I was walking on parkway drive and there are two bike trails that end on it. the eastern one is at the same level as the road but the other one ends and there is a drop from the trail over the curb to the road. I guy was riding pretty fast and he thought the trail would blend down to the road, but he guessed wring. he flew through the air like one of those olympic skate board folks and piled up pretty good. he was pretty mad about a trail joining the old road with a 8 inch drop.

The answer to the "why the obstructions in the lane" is that the lane is going away, replaced by bike paths (thank God, finally!) and bus pullouts.

So the bike paths are going through the bumps?

They better re-think it, they are squeezing the lane down to nothing. Just wait till a school bus hits one.

As I understand it, Natoma Station Drive will be one lane between Turn Pike and Seaton (or thereabouts). The median will be removed and the current "bump outs" will actually be "pull-ins" to accommodate school buses. I saw a diagram of the finished project some time ago but haven't been able to find it again. It looked pretty reasonable.

That makes a lot more sense if they are removing the median. I wonder if the changes will make it possible to turn into the Brighton parking lot without having to make a U-turn.

I recall that also being part of the plan.

I griped about them on here when they first started building them on Willow Creek by BT collins park. Once they finish them and get the flourescent caution signs, it becomes a little more obvious what they are and they aren't as likely to be run into by an inattentive driver, but I have seen tire marks on one of them showing that it still is possible to hit them.
