Reports are coming out that the Sacramento River Cats are set to announce a new affiliation with the San Francisco Giants.

The River Cats terminated their relationship with the Oakland A's 3 days ago, amid speculation that a deal with the Giants was in the offing.

As a Giants fan, I'm all for it!

This kinda stinks actually. Having the A's club here was always a good offset to the legions of Giants fans.

The River Cats claim there are far more Giants fans in this region than A's, so it will mean more tickets and more merchandise sold.

A's fans just don't support the 'Cats or the A's. Even though the A's have been playing great baseball for most of the season, have a winning record, are in 2nd place and tied for the wild-card lead, they rank 24th out of 30 in home attendance. All of the last place teams draw more fan support than the A's.

It just makes economic sense for the River Cats to make this move.

If they were smart, they'd change their color scheme. I'd much rather sport orange & black. It's time for an identity refresh anyways.

I disagree.  I don't know anyone that decides to support or not support the River Cats because of the affiliated team.  Not that those people don't exist, but I doubt that affiliation is the driving factor for the vast majority of people that attend games and purchase gear. They go because the River Cats were good and they won a lot.  There might be a small bump in attendance at first because they are Giants now.  I predict falling attendance and sales if they have a record similar to their record when in Fresno, regardless of the affiliated team.

They traded a consistently winning product for a consistently poor product.  They better hope that changes or this decision will be a disaster for them. (See Sacramento Kings attendance vs record throughout the years.)

more Giants fans will go because they get to see the injured players getting back into the game, way closer than they would ever get to them in SF...

I know several fans, including myself, who were thrilled at the news and who plan on going to more games next year because of the Giants affiliation.

Will it last? Who knows? For now the team is betting that they'll get the support from the Giant fans.

I know some A's fans who are disappointed because they enjoyed seeing rehabbing players come to town and watching the up and coming guys make to the bigs.

I know we are in a small majority but we follow the Giants team very closely. We usually know a lot of the players who are down in the AAA affiliate. My husband's family has had season tickets since the Giants moved to San Francisco and we took them over when they moved to the new ballpark.

My husband also works at the hotel right next to really field so we also pay attention to the River cats. We are very very pleased about the new affiliation but we still went to games and enjoyed the River cats regardless.

BOO.........

Love the A's....

They always do so well with the money they spend...

I think it's great, I know I will go to a lot more River cats games now that they are affiliated with the Giants! I would always look on the schedule at the beginning of the season to see when the Grizzlies were coming into town. It makes so much sense for them to come here. Way more Giants fans around here then A's fans. Can't wait.
