So we go from
Garcia/Hearst/Beasley/Streets/TO .... to
Rattay/Barlow/Beasley/Wilson/Lloyd
I appreciate the faithful's optimism...and the record for this season is still 0-0...
Check out ESPN's power rankings.. http://sports.espn.g...fl/powerranking
...There's a reason we're ranked 31st out of 32 teams going into this year.
I mean....yikes.

Brandon Lloyd is gonna make or break the 49ers recieving side.. As for the Raiders, if Jerry Rice, Tim Brown and Rich Gannon give it their all for one more year, they'll have a decent chance at getting somwhere.

Getting somewhere... a willd card loss, maybe, but even that is a long shot. The Raiders got lucky 2 years ago. The Niners are awful, but they have hope in that they are rebuilding. The Raiders will be interesting to see where they go after this year. Brown is gone, and I give 1 more year for Gannon & Rice.
Well, Rice will play 3-4 more years of he wants to, but he'll never attain the same level as he was as a Niner.

The season opener last night 9/9/04 Patriots and Colts. Go Brady, the Patriots win on their consecutive streak.

Man I love to hear people's take on professional sports. Football especially. To say that Jerry Rice will never attain the same level as he was as a Niner is brilliant! Was it the fact that he is now 42 yrs old and not 22 yrs old that made you come to this conclusion? Of course he will never be the same player. That is what age does to you.
As for this season, it should be pretty entertaining to say the least. A lot of fans grumble about the mediocrity in the NFL. I actually like the fact that there is a salary cap. Who wants to see the same teams year in and year out make the Superbowl? And how can the sport be considered "Competitive" if a franchise has the funds to go out and stack their team with the best players? I personally am not a Patriots fan, but I have to give them credit for their success. Bill Belichick has done a great job keeping his team together over the past 4 years.
What's everyones take on this season?
Here are my pics by division (go ahead and start laughing)
AFC West - Raiders
AFC South - Colts
AFC North - Ravens
AFC East - Patriots
AFC Wildcard - Chiefs and Titans
AFC Champs - Ravens
NFC West - Seahawks
NFC South - Saints
NFC North - Vikings
NFC East - Eagles
NFC Wildcard - Panthers and Cowboys
NFC Champs - Eagles

I predict Rice will have a fantastic year, as will almost any capable receiver. With the new focus on illegal contact downfield, cornerbacks will have 4 choices:
1) Knock the crap out of the receiver coming off the line
2) Watch them run
3) Get called for pass interference or illegal contact
It will be very difficult to cover a guy, even one like 43 year old Jerry Rice

Steve -
I absolutely agree with you. I love Jerry Rice. It should be interesting to see what he can accomplish. And hey with the new rules on cornerbacks, who better to get open on a cross pattern or post than Rice? It pained me to see "Mr. Raider" Tim Brown get cut, but what are you gonna do? He would have been the #3 guy behind Rice and Porter. If he has more football ahead of him, why not let him play somewhere else where he can start. I can't wait to see the game 9/26 against Tampa Bay (hopefully no blackout). Garner, Brown and Gruden coming back to Oakland will be quite entertaining.
