This morning around 12:30 am the Folsom Police responded to the Folsom Lake Bowl, 511 East Bidwell Street, regarding a stabbing that had just occurred. When officers arrived employees had physically restrained suspect David Son, 24, of Rancho Cordova. Witnesses told officers that Son had been attempting to bum cigarettes from his victims' a few minutes prior to the unprovoked attack. Son confronted four people in the parking lot as they left in their vehicle. The confrontation resulted in one male being stabbed in the neck, narrowly missing his Carotid Artery. A second man and a woman were also allegedly stabbed by Son. Two of the victims were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injures. Son was arrested for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and a probation violation. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

I received this alert as well. I believe it happened Late Fri. night/wee hours of Saturday morning, not this morning, as I received the notification shortly after 10 pm last night.

At any rate, I hope the victim has a full recovery.

So that's what all the sirens were for.

Heard a lot of them again last night, too. Hope that doesn't turn out to be more bad news.

Sadly this is not the first time, in recent months that the Lake bowl establishment has had issues. Folsom just seems to have a lot of alcohol related crimes. I wonder if there is something the town can do to lessen the # of accidents, DUI, human body exposures, and violent crimes that are plaguing the city.

I really thought that the number of DUI on riley would decrease and the the number would increase on E. Bidwell/ 50; after Manderes moved/.

And no, I don't blame the crime on Manderes, per se, so much as the over all influence of the number of clubs that are in that area.

Manderes is a beer and wine bar and restaurant. You can purchase beer and wine at any non-fastfood restaurant in the vicinity.

Manderes moved less than a mile from their previous location, and there are any number of other places to eat and drink at along E. Bidwell or any other dining area in Folsom.

What does Manderes have to do with anything??

To call them out for anything doesn't make any sense...

I don't think its the alcohol at the bowling alley as much as the casino. overall, they do a good job of policing things there.

I'm wondering how did this person travel to Folsom from Rancho Cordova? Did he drive, did he walk, did he bike or did he take public transit?

Typically we never find out how someone from out of town gets to our community, after they commit a crime?

I wasn't trying to call them out. I think you misunderstand what I was saying. Or perhaps I didn't say it well.

I was expressing an inner thought- out loud. I was thinking many months back --when they closed, that the constant DUI, pee-in-public, and assaults (probably drunken fights) were concentrated in a very small area.

Yes, there are eateries that serve alcohol throughout town, but this small slice of Riley and E. Bidwell from the historic district over to the bowling alley seems to be a concentration of derelict behavior. I think it may be due to the concentration of establishments that serve alcohol after normal business hours (bars).

I understand that that may not be a popular attitude to have, because the bars are keeping the historic area busy during this depresse economic time, but it just an observation.

the bars in old town have ALWAYS been active. they benefit the night time economy, certainly, but the day time businesses don't benefit and they're doing just fine. I think things are better on Sutter Street after hours now. Our new police chief made a big effort to crack down and it seems to have helped alot. I guess I am not seeing the big problem that some do in town. seems pretty safe to me. a neck stabbing, of course, isn't safe, but things happen. better than a drive-by shooting. I can think of a lot of other places I would feel less safe in Sacramento County alone.

this could have been prevented if someone gave the guy a cigarette...the non smoking trend may be more responsible that that Manderes place, or the honkkey tonks on sutter street

oh, wow..I'm not trying to blame Manderes or the police for the stabbing. I'm not saying that Folsom is not safe. Even though Folsom may "feel" safer than other communities does not mean that stuff happens; or can happen. I guess that is part of life.

I do think it interesting to follow trends in behavior, and that is why I made the comment about Manderes. Technically, now that Manderes and Chicago fire are so much closer to Hwy 50 access; I was thinking that the area surrounding the Palladio may become a new target of police interest during bar hours.

The Palladio may not have the benefit of the light rail bringing in and taking out responsible drinking patrons, which seems like a likely reason to wonder if the alcohol driven crimes will go up; in that area.

I am curious how you came to the statement that the new Chief is cracking down on these issues and it is helping?

I understand that that may not be a popular attitude to have, because the bars are keeping the historic area busy during this depresse economic time, but it just an observation.

While it's no secret that alcohol consumption and abuse can and often does lead to poor decision-making, I don't think that establishments like Manderes or the bowling alley are any more to blame for the behavior of drunks than any other establishment.

I've seen misbehaving drunks in Fats, Land Ocean, Sienna and other upscale bars far away from the area around the bowling alley. In fact, because Manderes does not serve hard liquor, and their beers aren't cheap, I'd say that there is less likelihood of the kind of derelict behavior you describe from Manderes patrons.

My wife and I get out to the bowling alley about once a month or so, and while we've seen a few folks acting foolish, the crowds are generally well-behaved. Same goes for all of the bars in town. Sometimes people get drunk and mis-behave.

Unless it is proven that the bartenders over-served them, those folks have to take 100% responsibility for their own actions.

David Son was also arrested by Folsom PD in June of 2010 after pulling a knife on someone at the Folsom Costco gas station. He took off before the cops showed up but they caught him on the freeway and pulled him out of the car at gun point. This is why he was on probation. I guess he didn't learn anything after that. I happened to see him get pulled out of the car on Hwy 50.
