Area being evacuated because of ruptured gas main at Sutter & Wool.

wow. that's bad. there couldn't be any work going on down there, so it must be in one of the buildings. all the utilities in the street are brand new. well, I've been evacuate downtown over big gas leaks, just had to wait a while for them to get them repaired.

how far are they evacuating? up to Riley?
Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

This was on the news over an hour ago, I bet it's all over now.

Maybe so. It looked like they were working in the middle of the street. I thought everything was new down there.

The news said they started smelling the gas at 3:30 or so this afternoon.

I don't know. It looked like they were working in the street, not near a building.

The street is open again.
PG&E located the leak about 10:00 p.m. and finished fixing it in the early morning hours.
It was a 4-inch plastic gas main. I guess they had to tear up the brand-new street, which is a shame.
How does something like that break?
