I actually consider Steve to be unbiased to a fault.  :-)

For instance, the end result of saying "I am neither for nor against the development" is the same as the end result of saying "I am for development", because that is what will happen if residents do nothing to oppose it.  On the other hand, even though I come out and say "I am against the development", I am also not doing anything about it, and probably couldn't do anything about it, and so the net result is the same with me as well.  But at least I am taking a stand and saying "Look, they've been deceiving us all along, and I don't like it."

I've never called Robert the bad guy and have never questioned his motives, though he has questioned mine several times when I didn't join in.

As for the question of where people would want their kids to play, I'm not sure I get your meaning.

When I tour people around, I tell them about the South area and the controversies. So far, none have decided against living here and none have decided to wait until the new homes are built to buy.

Back in 2004, folks were accusing the City Council of having a profit motive because Steve Miklos owned a mortgage company (even though the builders entice and even force their buyers to use their own lenders), and because Jeff Starsky is legal council for an air conditioning company. They couldn't figure out a profit motive for Kerri Howell (an engineer) or Eric King (works for Intel). No one came out and said it, but I always thought Morin might be looking at selling more pancakes.

It's a funny thing, really. People come out against an issue, and if one doesn't join in the outrage, they often get questioned, 'How could you not!?', or accused of having profit motive.

Honest answers aren't acceptable.

Steve, I can actually see why people might have some of those perceptions.  I mean besides PAC contributions and endorsements, when I see a council member in photos at fundraisers for things like Region Builders, an organization that states they are formed to "streamline permits, reducing fees, and removing bans on large format retail," or North State Building Industry Association as an "Friend of Housing" honoree, even if those associations can be explained by their personal professional life, I feel like my voice as a resident is going to be very small as compared to the building industry.

Having said that, just because I disagree with the council on certain directions or actions, I have found that accusing them of corruption or calling them names really accomplishes nothing.  Cutting off communication in that way means the small things we might agree on to make Folsom a little better won't ever get talked about.  That would be a shame.

I can live with that.

I am blessed and cursed with seeing both sides of most arguments, whether they be politics, race, religion, modern music, eating red meat or building development.

Chad once called me the 'King of the Grey' area and I think another time 'King of the Fence Sitters'. It's really not a bad place to be.

I know it's human nature however, for people to want to know 'is ya fer us or agin us'.

I think that each of us can see both sides of most arguments.

Sometimes we choose to fence-sit, sometimes we choose to take a stand, despite the other side of the argument which we understand.  It's up to each of us to decide for ourselves, on a topic-by-topic basis.  Sometimes we think fence-sitting is a good place to be, sometimes we think it isn't.

Agreed. Sometimes but not always, one has to come down on one side of the fence on the other.

I wonder; Is it a worse death to fall off a fence and land in a body of water with Tiger Sharks or Piranhas?

I think I'd rather fight off one shark than hundreds of piranha!

Great read on a few things:

1. How the Council's bent on growth is a Ponzi Scheme
2. How messed up the fed's are with paying for new highways (and roads like the Elk Grove/EDH connector debacle) when we cannot even afford to maintain the roads we have

For those not reading the entire article, here's the relevant part about the Ponzi scheme:

"The local government can cover these bills by attracting more growth, and this is what many of them do. The new round of growth pays for the previous one -- this is why Marohn calls it a Ponzi scheme. But the opportunities for growth are ultimately finite, and eventually most communities are forced into debt to pay for all the growth they have cheerfully approved. “Few cities,” Marohn says, “have any clue of the scale of their commitment for infrastructure maintenance.”"
