DUMB:  Apparently, right this minute there are 5 gates open at Folsom Lake, releasing perfectly good, fresh water to flow into the Delta and out into the Pacific Ocean. Such a waste. And Democrats still don't want to discuss *adding more water storage for drought times* in Calif because it might disturb a frog or a cricket. Idiots.

The lake is currently at 62% of capacity, vs. 50% on average for this time of year.

Remember that that dam is a flood control project first, drinking water comes second.

We've got massive snowpack, currently at 123% of average, with more coming, along with torrential rains.

They can risk it.

Yes the logical thing would be to build more damns in this state but nothing really ever follows logic in CA. Dont blame the EPA. Its this state that has determined its own fate. Four decades of no new lakes despite 2x the population. Folsom may have been BUILT as a primary means of flood protection. But if people really believe thats still its sole purpose must still be living in the 70s and not just barely survived 5yr of drought.

Yes, I think our dam and water system is built for 17 million people but we have 37 million people and about maybe 2 to 3 million more not counted people.   Illegal aliens to me, undocumented immigrants to others (democrats), democrats actually think this is so cool, oh, and they get drivers licenses and with that, voter registration....!   All while being from another country and not born here, came here by breaking our laws....   No wonder CA is just so crazy left wing dem.........   Sad...........    We (the left) are crafting our own noose around our necks........   Chris

Not so low now.

The current Folsom Lake level stands at about 928,000 acre feet which is 95% of capacity.  In an average year, the lake level peaks just about June 1st, at 825,000 acre feet.

The last snow survey of the season was done on May 1st, and at that time the Sierra snow pack was at 188% of average, and over the last 2 weeks the highest peaks have seen over a foot of new snow.

See the chart above. The blue line is where we are now, the sky blue is where we are in an average year, and the red, when we were in the midst of the 2014 drought.

We've had 4 good, 'wet' years in a row, and water experts warn that we shouldn't get too comfortable and to keep up conservation efforts, as we don't know when the next drought is coming.

For now, expect a good long boating season and maybe enjoy a walk by our beautiful lake.

Steve, this is GREAT. We were out there last week and I love it when the lake is full.
