what is it with heroin these days?  sheesh, you would think these people would know better than to ever start.

That's the part I don't get, why anyone would take something known to be so addictive and dangerous.

Incredibly stupid. My daughters have lost at least half a dozen classmates and friends, right here in Folsom from drug over-doses.

One would have been 21 on Thursday. He's been gone 3 years.

Drug addiction is a terrible anvil to carry around.

Drug addiction is a terrible anvil to carry around.

it just seems like some people should have been smart enough not to pick it up.

He was an addict, had been sober/clean for 21-23 years...and then he picked it up again. An article in daily mail talks about this (sorry can't copy URL with iPad).

As a friend of Bill W, us former drunks/dopers always need to be cautious. I've had well meaning friends ask if I can drink again, after all, it's been many years, surely I really wasn't an alcoholic. They've had friends who thought they were alcoholic but can control their drinking now...and yes, I've considered it, and then dropped the idea. My understanding of the disease is that it progresses even while a person is clean, so if you do pick up the substance again, you will hit bottom a lot faster. It's just not worth it to me. Thankfully, I remember what it was like, and I never want to go there again, or further down the addiction road.

It sounds like he let his guard down. and a series of events, including prescription drug use, led him back down the path. It's really hard for an addict to see when they are in the snare of addiction.

Edit: here's one of the articles: http://www.dailymail...e-Sundance.html

that makes more sense.  start the addiction in youth and stuck with it for life.  Hang in there and good job, Caligirlz!!

What a loser. Committed suicide for a needle stick. Great way to abandon those kids and what a great message he sent them. He loved his choices more than he respected their need for a father. Hope he burns for eternity

Judgement forged in ignorance.

How fortunate you are that you are free from disease......which addiction is.

Unfortunately it makes you appear ignorant, unable to empathize, and frankly, cruel.
