A mountain lion has been reported around School and Glenn streets.

Folsom PD and Cal Dept of Fish and Game trying to track it down, and advising people and pets to stay indoors.

No other details available at this time.

My wife saw a half-eaten dear on the Johnny Cash Trail 3 days ago. I'm wondering if it might be the of the mountain lion or maybe a coyote.

Whatever the case, stay home and be safe tonight!

Is this a new sighting since this morning?  There was one sighted this morning at about 7:00 on a fence between yards on School St. after a man on Fargo got some good photos of one that was in his yard.

I hope they can subdue it without killing it.  probably came through the wetlands area along Creekside.  Poor thing.

Steve,

Where does Folsom PD post these alerts? I checked their website, the Nixle alert log, and even looked at their public Facebook and Twitter sites and saw nothng. I love how myfolsom.com gives us such important info AND would like to know how to get it straight from Folsom PD (without a mobile device).

I would think a "shelter in place" would warrant a robo call. ???

And, btw, how is it that 191 users are viewing this topic right now??? Is that a record???

Thank you.  I was wondering the same thing and didn't see anything on Nixle.  Again, is this a new alert or leftover from this morning?  I'm assuming it's old because I haven't seen any PD in the area.  I'm wondering if it's okay to escort my snack-sized canine out back to do her business.

There were helicopters a while ago.  Apparently, the mountain lion has been secured.

Photo of a very sleepy kitty passed out in someone's backyard was just posted on the Folsom PD Facebook page.

They explained they didn't post on Nixle to avoid people coming to try to see it. Only used the neighborhood phone alert system.

For future reference, that call doesn't show up as local.  It's 999-999-9999 so I was ignoring it thinking it was those IRS scammers.

I am so happy they were able to tranquilize it.  As much as I didn't want to be face to face with it in the yard, it is a beautiful creature.

Thanks, ducky. We didn't get any calls tonight. Does the entire city receive these calls, or only those in the immediate vicinity? We're north of the bridge.

I'm thinking the PD can maybe program for only a certain block or mile radius to get the calls.

Kind of eerie that the cat stuck around and was captured very close to where it was originally sighted.

Someone from the neighborhood notified me, and I called PD to verify.

As for the 191 users viewing, I don't know if it's a record, but it that's a lot of eyeballs.

Thanks again for the info about the PD calls/alerts. I checked the website more thoroughly and found that the calls are limited to the "geographical area" in which the incident is taking place. I seem to recall we have received at least one call of this nature in the past, so that must be why we didn't hear anything last night. Regardless, we kept our pets in until further notice. So THANK YOU myfolsom.com for keeping us in the know! :)

A little more info I gleaned from the Folsom PD Facebook page (you don't have to be on Facebook to see it):

What the PD used was called Everbridge, which only notifies landlines in whatever area or addresses the PD specifies.  If you want your cellphone to receive these kind of alerts they have a link on the Facebook page to the city Website where you can register so you can get the alert on your mobile device.
