I was on the phone with tech support, but it hasn't really fixed the problem (they had me do a system reset). Anyone know of any other ways to fix the problem or should I send the laptop back and ask for a new one?

What operating system are you using? And systems usually do not shut down after a BSOD, they hang there until you power them down. And a BSOD won't damage the hard drive, not sure you are understanding the 2 items aren't related. Unless by damage you mean corrupting your OS?
Did you remove the driver that caused your initial problem?

windows is a virus, it'd be worth the learning struggle to get away from it.

Been there don't that. Worked for about 4 hours then was back to the blue screen.
It's a dell (I never had problems with the previous laptop).

As for the poster who said the computer should not shut down after a BSOD, it depends on what is selected in Windows in regards to BSOD's. If "Shut down the computer" is selected, then it will shut down. I do not believe that is the default setting, but it might be direct from Dell.

it's the new inspiron. The message was first about the bluetooth thing that came installed with the my laptop.
after about 2 weeks of that message it now appears when I try to shutdown the system.
When I talked w/ tech support, they "updated" the BIOS (the version they did the update with was the same version I already had). When the person realized that she had me do a system reset so it went back to how it was when I first got the laptop.
Now I don't get the blue screen for bluetooth anymore, just every once in a while when I try to shut down.

Sorry, to sound like I'm gloating...but I am glad I'm not a PC user anymore! Gave up the PC completely 5 years ago and do not miss it at all!
My PowerBook G4 (apple computers) has not crashed even once in 5 years!
Go for a Mac - you will not regret it!
