Nope, it's not optional.

The camera btw, is a really good one, and it can also shoot video - all with very good quality resolution.

I believe Bill was asking because elsewhere he noted selling\working with government agencies (and some businesses) generally prohibit cameras or camera phones on site. RIM has a no-camera option for this reason.

There are a lot of "pretenders" trying to copy the iphone, but none are even close.

Have you had a chance yet to play with an iphone? If not, you should go to an Apple store to check them out someday, it's more like a mini computer with a phone feature, not the other way around.

No, but I've been playing with the Ipod Touch upgraded with the IPhone software... Actually, I've been doing a lot of my computing on the thing, believe it or not.

The iphone is quite a competent computer actually, I've been looking for someone to come up with a docking station with a bigger screen, keyboard and USB connections for it. Then you wouldn't need a laptop even.

I realized today I lost my ability to tether my phone to my laptop. Anyone else have this problem?

3.1 broke the tethering hack but you might try reapplying the hack because I think Davburr did and tethering still works for him.

According the all of the iPhone hack/unlock websites, there is NO way to get tethering working on 3.1. After you run the update, the phone will still show tethering in the network menu until the first time you actually try tethering with a computer, then it disappears and tethering never works again.....

I'm looking at going back to 3.0. Hope it works to go back. Fingers crossed.

how about if its jail broken? crappy upgrades like that give people more reasons to hack their phones.

the thing I hate most about 3.1 is the terrible battery/power management, Apple really screwed up this upgrade big time. I used to be able to run my phone all day on one charge, not anymore

So far, no. They just got the jailbreak working last week, and they have not been able to find any way to downgrade at all.
