Our daughter used this viola in 4th grade for her music class. It's a 1.5 size (have your child measured at Nicholson's) and is in great shape. The case has a handle on the side and two straps on the back. Your child could either hold it by the handle or wear it like a backpack. You're welcome to have the book that goes with it, but it has some of her doodles in it (in pencil).
