The University of Chicago sends incoming students welcome letter informing them that they do not support "trigger warnings" and "safe spaces".

Good for them!

I like it. Maybe there is hope after all, but we'll see.

That Dean of Students, Jay Ellison, is showing a tremendous amount of courage.

Bravo! I thought it was a great letter. Of course, you have colleges like Princeton going bats* crazy the other direction banning the word "man."  As in no mankind, no workman, not even a "Hey guys" greeting is to be tolerated because... male privilege or some other feminist garbage. THAT is the kind of stuff that gives feminism a bad name. And makes colleges look foolish

Here is more collegiate foolishness:

Banning clapping because it could "trigger some people’s anxiety."  Use jazz hands instead. I have a hand gesture in mind to express my feelings about this...

Trying to get rid of grammar because "grammar and spelling corrections were creating an unsafe climate for students of color. While reading the anti-grammar letter, one student protester began to cry. “I’m tired, and it hurts me so much,” she said."

Banning burritos at a scifi club event because it triggers "a connection between individuals of Latino heritage or undocumented students and ‘aliens.’

Banning language of bias like "American" (ironically in the most libertarian state)  https://youtu.be/ydiHFaVb1Iw

Cancelling a band because they were white and appropriated the "afrobeat" sound. The students" questioned the selection of one band, asking whether it was a predominantly white Afrobeat band, and expressing their concerns about cultural appropriation and the need to respect marginalized cultures.” It wasn’t long until enough students complained about being offended by the ethnicity of the Afrobeat band that the college decided to cancel the concert altogether."

According to the CA UC system, America is the land of opportunity is a microagression. Full article here:  http://reason.com/bl...ression-america

And don't even get started on false rape allegations that result in expelling of students who are not allowed to have an attorney present for mandatory hearings AND are not allowed to present evidence. Even when the "victim" claims there was no rape, it doesn't matter.  As of November, there are more than 50 pending lawsuits filed by men who claim they were unfairly expelled from college after being accused of sexual assault.

Hahaha, love the idea. Funniest thing is that these people are so clueless that they are being trolled/exposed.

I guess there are about 75 million millennials in the country right now. I hope most of them are NOT going to college. Colleges nowadays are merely *indoctrination and brainwashing centers* and adult daycare. Oh no, is that offensive?

Nooooooo!  I guess no more Clapton, Allmans, Stevie Ray, etc..

By their logic, I can't cook Mexican food, wear a "culture specific" item of clothing, cut my hair a certain way, converse in another language, produce art that may be similar to some specific culture, eyc.  Bunch of friggin, whiny, self-important idiots. Check this out...

Dude gets harassed for" appropriating" dreadlocks (no pushback on straightened hair) This at San Francisco SU  Note that after asking for some scissors,  she grabs him and then says get your hands off me. What a loser.  She makes me side with dreadlock dude, and I am no fan of them unless your last name is Marley.  And what is dude in the background wearing?

Ah, yes. I was waiting for this. Now college students, A.K.A. "delicate little snowflakes", are offered *coloring books* if they happen to need a safe space or have a trigger-warning episode. They apparently need to *de-stress*. Story below.

I guess all you can do is laugh at how soft this country is becoming. I wonder who/what is to blame for this trend? I think we all know the answer to that easy question.  :)

My nephew is going to art school. Today his mom (my sister) told me that they were instructed not to use 'he' or 'she' when talking about someone, as that puts them in a category by gender, whatever that means.

Steve,  it seems the rule is an attempt to impose and enforce speech codes on students.  If he wants to make it an issue, he can ignore the rule, and when the school sanctions him in some way, take it to court.  College speech codes have failed in the courts since the 1960's...EVERY time.

Bad idea. On authoritarian college campuses these days, you better go along to get along. Going against the flow will get you on the *bad side* of the University regime. Not a smart move.
