Although 1 murder is too many, Folsom and El Dorado Hills are statistically among the safest communities in California.

According to City data and other stats I've looked up, Folsom has had 7 murders in the last 15 years.

Some follow up from the faulty news stories. Apparently it was not the victim's birthday, she was just out with her business partner. I guess they decided to play that part up for some reason? I guess you can't be a woman out late without a valid reason.

Also, one of them apparently handed over the purse and that's when they ran and were chased by the murderer. The women tried to get back into the bar but the door was locked. Not clear if it was locked after they left or when the folks inside saw the action in the parking lot and got scared and left the women on their own. The struggle happened very close to the door and that's when the woman was shot. The other woman began to beat the murderer and stomp him and that's when he ran. Also explains why he looked so jacked up in his mug shot. After that the bartender got some balls he opened the side door to help.

There is also video footage (probably that normal, useless, dark, grainy stuff) that captured it all. Wonder if it will be released.

Stastics really don't paint the most accurate picture. People who were killed and where the perpetrator was charged with manslaughter, are just as dead as those who were charged with murder.

I think Folsom is safer than most other communities, but its NOT as safe as it once was and its getting worse.

The gap between initial reports and reality often seems wide.  Perhaps in this case as well.

Well we've heard nothing else about the story, why do you think that is? I have this info from a source related to the folks involved.

It's weird to me, in this age of high tech, that video footage of crimes is often so very lousy.  Why aren't clear HD color images the norm? There can't still be any technical challenge, can there?  Isn't it in the interests of the public that business owners have such equipment?  (This is a general comment.  In this particular crime, there is no mystery involved in finding the killer.)

Meanwhile, I hope to eventually learn all the currently unreported details of this story - how the killer got to EDH, why he was there, what exactly happened.  But it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things:  a young woman is dead, and the killer is in custody.  Another day in the life of America.

Rich. Yes, technology allows for hd cameras for security. The problem is that what works well for bright light is horrible for dim or low light conditions. Theoretically, you  could go with an infra red camera or a VERY expensive lens designed to capture light. You could also use camera tht are specifically for low light. Watch any "ghost" show and even with their tech, the low light  images are unimpressive. The cheapest solution is to get some bright lighting

Thanks, that makes sense for outdoors at night.

What I always find "primitive" are the indoor convenience store videos, which are such low-quality when they show them on the news.

BCF,

RARELY?  You gotta be kidding me?

We had the bank robber shot n killed in home a few years ago, last year that person was shot n killed by FPD after killing his child, we had the guy killed in the parking lot of the tattoo parlor during a fight, we had that kid stabbed on East bidwell n killed, that guy stabbed somebody at FLB, the shots fired last year at Cimarron Circle and how about the big shootout at the Safeway mini mart after Sutter street closed down. (There were bullet holes all over the place, yet that story wasn't released to the public). How about the incident where the LEO was attacked down on Sutter street. How about the car jackings going on at outlet mall with people with guns....how long before one of us gets shot there? Ive heard from people who have said they've seen people with guns down on Sutter street.

With all the home and car breakins going on its only a matter of time until a resident is shot.

We cant be in denial over what's happening in our community if we're going to solve these issues!

You aren't going to solve these issues with the current police chief and city counsel sitting and staring at the retirement clock.

It's time to enact harsher laws...

Yes, exactly -  We should outlaw murder so this never happens again!

Not bad, considering the rest of us are still feeling the the effects of the great recession.

yes well...to keep that into perspective--- a fire fighter makers approximately 200k a year. the president of the us makes 400K a year.

so saving on average 1 life a year equals compensation of 200k dollars- and saving all the lives of the us is equal to 400k dollars. Do I think this shows the an excessive use of monies by the local governments? Yes I do.

Brilliant! Oh wait, it already is outlawed. So the next step is harsher punishments instead of 5-10 years of Club Fed with free internet, free college, free works outs, free food, free medical coverage, maybe even a sex change if you want it. SCREW THAT! Time to start hanging these murdering bastards. No more appeals, no more years, decades on death row - do it immediately - set the example for other gang banging scum bags that this will NOT be tolerated. Shoot someone, we will hang you by your neck until dead.

I should have set my goals lower and became a prison guard or a cop instead of an engineer. Would have made more money, especially in retirement. I have some friends who are retired prison guards at age 50 making well over 100k a year in pension/retirement.

Getting a state job is like winning the lottery.
