I've been really happy with the Folsom Farmers Market over the last several months.  Amazing quality produce, and other foods.  It's exceeded the EDH market, and it's year 'round and local to Folsom.   Give it a try.

Saturdays 8-1 in the historic district.

(No, I'm not affiliated in any way; I just love Farmers Markets, and buying food from the farmers when possible.)

I have been going too and it really is awesome.  so lucky to have it in old town.  the fruit and vegetable vendors have great produce and I love just seeing the color.  I also tried kombucha for the first time last Saturday.  Nash's Brewing is selling it.  I bought a 16-oz cup of the lemon ginger and took it home.  I loved it and had some guests over who all tried it and loved it too, including a 10-year-old who asked for more!  Great alternative to soda.  Now I see on their facebook page that they are going to sell refillable bottles, so I am all over that.  that alone will get me there on Saturday morning.  I always get a bouquet of flowers, some fruit (oranges are big right now), vegetables in season, and then I check out and see what the specialty booths have.  its always good.  that lady with the chair massage seems to do a great business too.  what makes it even better for me is that its right next to the parking structure, so even when its hot, there is shaded parking.  however, I will say that as more bike riders and other people accessing the trails park there, they take up that parking on weekends and make it hard to find a spot.  then you end up driving to the top of the structure to find a space.  the farmers market visitors though seem to come and go pretty quickly, so you can usually find a space.

yes, very lucky to have it in old town!

I've bought heirloom tomatoes, heirloom carrots (didn't know they existed), a variety of produce I usually only find at Asian markets (long beans, thai basil), cashew 'cheese' (the pesto flavor was great), sauces, bread, dog treats and more.

I often stop by one or more of the shops on the street, such as the Black Rooster for a coffee, breakfast at Sutter St. Grille, Snook's Candy or even a Bloody Mary at the Sutter Club!

Agreed - Great resource to have in the HD. I am sad on Saturdays when I am out of town and miss it.

Could get even better once the Railroad Square development gets built.

I went to the Farmers' Market a lot last year, and this year I've been going once or twice a month.  I've honed down my visits to the same 2 or 3 vendors, which is efficient, but it makes for a very short visit, which is not much of an "event".  And maybe it's just me, but I haven't been as enthusiastic about the offerings lately - probably because it's that "in between" time of year for many fruits and vegetables.

But I still enjoy it.  I even wrote a song about going to the Saturday market. :-)

One more vote of satisfactions with the market. And 4thGen, if you rode your bike to the market like more and more locals are doing, you wouldn't care about the parking in the garage.  Heck, you could kayak there from your house!

Try it!

Quality is pretty good but don't expect great "farmers market" type pricing you might expect.  I find prices to be pretty high here compared to some other markets I've been to.

their prices seem pretty on target compare with other certified markets.  I bought some strawberries on Saturday that were about $8 for three baskets.  I also had some I bought at Winco for $2 for about 2 baskets.  So Winco is cheaper, but when you taste them side by side, there was no comparison.   I am definitely going to buy the farmers market berries.

After reading your comments I decided to go to the Farmers market as well. It was my first time and certainly won't be my last time either.  Besides being perfect weather, the mix of vendors and their selection was good and I was inspired to make fresh pasta sauce using mostly ingredients I bought at the market including onions, garlic, carrots, tomatoes, herbs etc  and oh boy did the sauce come out good.  I will certainly look forward to more trips to the Farmer's Market

I've noticed over the years that farmers market prices in general are becoming less and less of a bargain, but that's not why I go. I love the idea of buying farm fresh produce and other products from the growers and producers themselves.

I once saw a story where someone bought produce from a store, then rented a booth at a farmer's market and sold it for a profit, but I don't think that's common.

It stays in the back of my mind though.

by the way, the Murer House is going to be offering two Italian cooking classes this year that start at the farmers market.  the instructor is from Rome and wants to start by taking the class through the market showing how an Italian picks their seasonal produce and thinks of how to combine them based on what is at peak season.  then the class goes to the learning center and cooking based on what they find.  she is calling it a master chef challenge!

I was there on Sat. I was shocked at how much it's grown. I was shocked to see someone selling citrus from Exeter from Tulare County, my old home area! However, I didn't buy from them, I bought from someone else, and sad to say, the citrus was very much like what I buy at Coscto, as far as quality, but much more expensive.

I was shocked to see a quilter there, selling quilts for dirt cheap. I quilt too, and her prices do not reflect the actual cost or time spent on making a quilt. I guess it's a good way to get a little of the expense back on a hobby.

Overall nice, but pricey for sure. You can pay the same prices for organic at Whole Foods or most other grocery stores.
