Speeding on North Lexington, South Lexington and Silberhorn is out of control. It's time to do something about it.

I've started a site to address the problem. Let's work on solving this problem before someone gets hurt.

See Drive25mph.com for more information.

I know it's short notice, but the boards have been down and I couldn't contact you. The next 'Slow Down Folsom' meeting is today at 4pm, Bentley Mortgage - 618 East Bidwell St at Wales.

I'm glad to hear that someone is working on a "Slow Down Folsom" effort. Post more information or send me an email about this and I will see if we can work together to form a solution.

And to respond to the suggestion about the keepkidsalivedrive25.org effort, my reason for starting Drive25mph.com was to develop a local solution. I know that their organization does good work, but in the case of the three streets I'm focusing on, signs and little plastic men holding flags does not work. My neighbors and I have tried this approach and it hasn't worked. Believe me, it just hasn't worked in the past.

We're open to new ideas and efforts.

Please post thoughts and suggestions here or on the blog through the Drive25mph.com site.

It's been in the works for a while, and still a little premature, but I can tell you that May will be disignated as 'Slow Down Folsom' month.

It will be a signage and public awareness campaign. I know that individuals have tried the lawn sign approach, but this is a little different, in that the city is behind us, the signs will be uniform, the focus is for one month, with neighbors encouraged to get out and slow each other down.

In the end, it may fail, but we are hoping and counting on the good folks of Folsom to stand up for the community and use signage, and positive peer pressure to get people to slow down.

More details to follow.

Well why are you only focusing on those three streets? I believe many of us here in Folsom would have to agree that this is a city wide problem, and there are other streets such as Sibley and Lembi that have a larger problem with speeding.

Very good question. I'm starting with the three streets in my neighborhood that I know are problem areas. Name the residential streets that have speeding problems and we can go to the city to present the problem as well as possible solutions.

I have lived in Lexington Hills for 15 years and have seen the speeding problem get worse every year. I realize we are a growing city and the volume of traffic cannot be reduced, but we can work on keeping the traffic at the speed limit for safety purposes.

I dont want it to sound like I am blowing steam at you, but I just think we should focus on the city as a whole, not just one area

I agree. Let's start getting some realistic solutions together to deal with this city-wide. I would like nothing more than for this to become a city-wide initiative rather than a few irritated neighbors in the Lexington Hills area spouting off.

I did start my two postings to announce my efforts with Drive25mph.com in the Lexington Hills and Empire Ranch forums simply because I live in Lexington Hill and because Silberhorn has become a major path to Empire Ranch. I was trying to get more than one subdivision involved.

But, as I said, I agree that we should focus on making all residential streets in Folsom safe by reducing the number of speeders. My hope is that Drive25mph.com grows to a point that more people think about the need to reduce their speed in residential areas--regrardless of where they live or whose neighborhood they are driving through.
