What a Great Man and a real HERO.

John Glenn, the 1st American to orbit Earth, has died at 95

John Glenn, whose 1962 flight as the first U.S. astronaut to orbit the Earth made him an all-American hero and propelled him to a long career in the U.S. Senate, died Thursday. The last survivor of the original Mercury 7 astronauts was 95.

Glenn died at the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where he was hospitalized for more than a week, said Hank Wilson, communications director for the John Glenn School of Public Affairs.

John Herschel Glenn Jr. had two major career paths that often intersected: flying and politics, and he soared in both of them.

Before he gained fame orbiting the world, he was a fighter pilot in two wars, and as a test pilot, he set a transcontinental speed record. He later served 24 years in the Senate from Ohio. A rare setback was a failed 1984 run for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Sad day for America. This was a genuine hero. Both in war and space. JFK grounded him after his orbit saying he couldn't risk losing him in another flight. Of course in the 90's he went up again using his aging body to test the effects of space on older people. God bless him.

Anybody who shot down three Mig-15's in combat is a hero to me....!  Plus a pilot in WW2 who saw combat.  They don't make men like this anymore....   Except maybe for Mattis......?   God speed Mr. Glenn.   One of the last real democrats I could respect.   Him and Zell Miller...........  Maybe Allen Cranston back in my day, just a little bit....?  When democrats were actually for America, patriots, hunters, gun owners, pro 2A, pro business, pro working, blue collar man.....   For the working class actually, not just saying so.....  Actually real Americans and not socialist, communist, racist bomb droppers when they are losing the argument, anti capitalist snowflakes living off of their ample government checks provided by those of us who work 5 to 7 days a week....!

Enjoy your time in heaven Mr. Glenn.   You deserve it.   Chris

149 air combat missions with 6 (!) Distinguished Flying Crosses and Air Medal with 18(!!!) award stars. His plane was hit by flak 12 times (with up to 250 holes) .His Gold Star Mothers speech was an epic smack down of his opponent in the Dem primary

He served his country with honor and distinction for 5 decades. He married his high school sweetheart and remained married over 70 years .He embodied the best of America. Godspeed Colonel Glenn.

A short clip from The Right Stuff that is representative of his love for his wife. Supposedly very accurate representation of the actual call.
