There's been a lot of rumbling earthquakes in the last few days at the San Juan de Fuca plate off the coast of Seattle.

The San Juan de Fuca subduction zone is capable of generating a magnitude 9 earthquake if a major slip occurs.

We're now in the middle of a swarm with quakes measuring 5.1 to 5.7 in the past 24 hours.

Actually if may be better to have a number of 5.0 - 6.0 quakes than a single 9.0 quake.  When the geological stresses build up, they can be relieved over a longer period of time by a number of lower energy quakes, rather than a single high energy quake.  In either case, the same amount of energy will be released and the built up stresses will be relieved.  A number of lower energy quakes could be a good sign.  but of course, earthquakes are a horribly inexact science, so unexpected things could happen.
