when I go to a restaurant (in most cases unless its a special occasion), I could care less about decor, ambiance, presentation BS stuff that yuppies care about. I am there to accomplish one thing. I am hungry and I want to feed my stomach some good food.

I ate there a couple weeks ago and was very disappointed with the service. The food was o.k but nothing special. I was expecting a restaurant that was on par with Mexquite or Qbole in Folsom as far abmiance and service and it was far below that. The service was terrible and the staff quite unfriendly. I may have caught them on a bad night but I am not motivated to return. It is a huge disapointment considering the limited options for dining in El Dorado Hills. I can only go to Bistro 33 so many times.

Call me old school, but I actually generally prefer the Mexican food places that don't have as much of a fancy ambiance. For instance, I like to go over to Collina De Oro and get a big plate of Chili Colorado. Not fancy, but I like it!

Pueblo Chico was fine when we went there. I'm sure we'll go back when we're over around Town Center and want something to eat but I don't consider it a "must have" kind of place. I also figure that they're brand new and most restaraunts come up the curve somewhat in the first several months.

We went there Friday night and service and food was very good. Wife didnt like the fruit flavored margarita (thought it would be blended vs. over the rocks) but everything else was good. Prices werent cheap but certainly not expensive. I think price wise it is similar to Hacienda and Sol.

OTJ - I'm with you. I like the hole in the wall Mexican restaurants because they are inexpensive, generally authentic, good or great service and of course great food. It has been a long time but Aldaberto's on Greenback near Hazel was pretty good.

Would like to see businesses stay open because we have had too many close up shop like Express Gourmet, Beyond Juice, GoodFellas to name a few recent departures sad.gif .

I haven't been to Adalberto's , but another example of what I'm talking about would be La Placita on Greenback across from the Dairy Queen.

I have seen La Placita but havent been there. Although we haven't been to Lolita's off of Oak and American River Canyon, I would recommend it as well. Lolita's used to be in near the DQ on Greenback (maybe in same location as La Placita) before moving several years ago.

This is not an actual review for pueblo Chico but information for hard working taxpayers and business owners of this great country, about the owners of this restaurant. With the economy in turmoil and heading into the busiest retail time of the year, I would ask all of you to think twice about who you give your hard earned money to.
I know about these Martinez people from Texas, they are some shady characters. Their idea of running a business is to lie cheat and steal, to make profits at any cost.
They have hired very dear friends of their family to help them with their restaurant and skipped town with out paying them on several occasions. They did not payback a silent partner who invested money into their Texas restaurant. They did not pay taxes. They hire illegal immigrants instead of Americans who need jobs (especially in this economy) they pay them under the table so as to not pay the tax contribution that goes to workman’s comp. they don’t pay food vendors.
They hire high school students and make them work more hours than allowed and don’t pay them. They also write their own reviews, look at the times and dates on the first reviews, its like some one working there was getting off work late and writing reviews what a joke! I just ask you people to think hard about who you would rather give your money to in these trying times.

Atmosphere is important to me if it's a special occasion or an expensive place.

La Fiesta is the most authentic Mexican joint in town. The food is fast, fresh, inexpensive and plentiful. I also liked the one next to Gold Miner. I believe it's called El Rey. Very good, family-owned place.

I take visiting friends to Hacienda for a drink on the balcony every once in a while, but am not a fan of their food.

Good drinks at Mexquite, too.

I did work for them, and think they are a fantastic family. I find what you're saying hard to believe.

I also don't see any reviews that sound like they were written by the family. I myself once recommended the fideo, but am not seeing these late night posts of praise.

Just a follow up on my prior comment.

I went to this restaurant a couple more times recently. I had a great experience from start to finish. The things that I didn't like about there food has been changed (chips etc) and now my only complaint is that they BADLY need better ventilation. It gets so smokey from the hot plates that it looks like a foggy night in that place for a long time...

Last time I went there I was also disappointed in the size of my portions etc for the $15-20 combo plate. I haven't ordered that since due to my diet but I'm confident that it has also been corrected.

So, it appears that it might make it as a regular stop of mine : )

Went on the 4th and ordered an enchilada dish (can't remember which) and it was nice. Also had a margarita and was very disappointed in it.

Did talk w/ the manager and she said that their menu (food and drink) are going to be changing soon.

Pablo has had quite a bit of changes take place. I haven't actually eaten there in a long time so I couldn't recommend anything in particular I'm afraid.

These recent changes are for the better in my beliefs but the economy is so bad and I believe they have struggled so much over the past couple months... I would think they could really use a few people to give it another chance so they can get things turned around there.

As soon as I get a chance to actually eat there again I'll be sure to rate back here again with a plate suggestion if its good... hopefully others will report back here also.

Ps. If anyone goes there then give them a hard time in getting the "downtown brown" beer back again on tap : )
