Some very dear friends of mine are frantically trying to find their daughter, who has been missing since March 18th. They have gotten zero help from El Dorado County Sheriff's Department, due to her being chronologically 17, and a presumed runaway. Kacie is developmentally disabled, and has the mental capacity of an 8 or 9 year old. She is also likely very sick at this point due to her not taking her meds.
I've contacted the local news outlets (Channel 3, Channel 10, Channel 13, and the Sacramento Bee) and only heard back from Channel 10, who was sending a news van up to the Nugget parking lot for the flier distribution gathering this morning.

In short, she was out with a friend who told Kacie's parents that he dropped her off at the house, and assumed she went inside. He has called the family daily and even helped post fliers. He told Kacie's dad today that he had not, in fact, taken Kacie home that night. He said they were in the Safeway parking lot (Green Valley Road and Francisco Drive) and he saw Kacie talking to someone in a Hummer. She shouted to the boy, "He's going to take me home." and proceeded to hop in the car. She has not been seen since. Although this boy was the last known person with Kacie, the El Dorado County Sheriff's have yet to speak with him.

The longer she stays missing, the less our odds are of finding her, so I want to pass on her information. I tried to attach the flier, but it's too large.
Date Missing: March 18th 2008
Date of Birth: September 9, 1990
Age: 17
Sex: Female
Height: 5’ 7”
Weight: 150
Build: Thin
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Brownish/Red. Straight Shoulder Length
Race: Caucasian
Complexion: Fair
Clothing: Wearing Jeans, T-shirt with a Hurley logo & Gray Hoodie.

NOT TAKING IMPORTANT MEDICATION

If anyone has any information, or has seen Kacie, please contact the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department at 530-621-6600, or if you would like me to send you the flier, please PM me with your contact information.

Thanks for posting about this. I just responded to a neighbor who routed the flier to me (and others); I told her that I had tried to verify the validity of the story and couldn't find anything on the Internet about her.

Anyway, doesn't this male friend of Kacie's know she has a diminished mental capacity? Why would he allow her to go off with some stranger in a car in the parking lot (on top of the fact that he's already changed his story)? Something doesn't add up here; I think said friend knows more than he's admitting.

Someone forwarded me an email on this earlier today. Honestly, I did not think it was true b/c I found nothing on the news sites and nothing here. I don't get why the Sheriff would not take this seriously. Sure, she's 17, but only chronologically. That seems like blatant disregard if you ask me. So glad you were able to get the Ch 10 at least interested.

Man, I sure hope they find her.

As a parent, I am absolutrely heartbroken when I hear of missing or abducted kids. Last weekend, we could not find our 5 year old for 10 minutes within the eater egg hunt frenzy and the mrs almost fainted. She could not stop shaking all Saturday night for losing him for 10 minutes. I cannot even imagine all those parents that lost their kids. What they must be going through. My heart and prayers go out ot the family for safe return.

I'm praying for her and her family. I hope she's found safe quickly.

Do you know what color the Hummer was? That's a pretty conspicuous car. Maybe if people know of a neighbor or someone that has that color Hummer, they could let the family know and they could at least go knock on the door and talk to them? I'd say send the cops to talk to them, but if they won't help...

Hopefully this might be a case of a non-dangerous guy thinking he just picked up a pretty girl and has no idea that anyone is looking for her.

I have very little information about the young man who was with Kacie (was he a classmate? A neighbor? Someone she knew from church?) or about the Hummer - I did ask about the color, and that information was not available.
It's so incredibly frustrating that Sheriff's Department hasn't even interviewed this boy.

Hmm.. Interesting. I just found a story on Sacbee.com about a developmentally disabled 37yo MAN who has been missing since Tuesday.

http://www.sacbee.co...ory/807372.html

Over on KCRA.com I did a search and found a story from 2004 where they did a story on a developmentally disabled teen (no age given) with the capacity of a 6yo.

http://www.kcra.com/...730/detail.html

Another one from 2001 about an 18yo DD boy who also needed medication -

http://www.kcra.com/...802/detail.html

KXTV 10 has a headling from FRIDAY about the missing 37yo DD MAN, but nothing for your friend's daughter.

http://www.news10.ne...x?storyid=39813

Here's another story from KXTV on the 19th about a 31yo woman with bipolar disorder -

http://www.news10.ne...x?storyid=39712

On the 17th, an elderly man from Stockton is missing -

http://www.news10.ne...x?storyid=39613
This link is the link where they found him. The original story was posted on Friday, March 14th, but there's no story under the link.
http://search.news10...e...=&address2=

Here's some stuff from KOVR -

Again, the 31yo woman who has bipolar disorder

http://cbs13.com/loc...g.2.681119.html

An elderly man from Folsom
http://cbs13.com/loc...n.2.658822.html

An elderly man missing from Roseville
http://cbs13.com/loc...e.2.643040.html

......................

I'd have the parents call every one of these "news" organizations with this information and ask them when they can expect to see their daughter's picture and information on the news. It couldn't possibly take more than 30 seconds of air time. If they say no, I'd threaten to sue them.

I'd also get in touch with Missing and Exploited Children, http://www.missingkids.com/ , America's Most Wanted (they have a missing children section) http://www.amw.com/ , the Polly Klaas Foundation http://www.pollyklaas.org/

And Associations and Foundations for people with developmental disabilities like the National Association of Developmental Disabilities Coucils - http://www.healthlin...lities-councils , and the Coleman Foundation - http://www.colemanfo....org/index.html

And the freaking Governor's office.

I'd also call Oprah, Montel, Dr. Phil and anyone else who might listen.

I also put this information in the "Send Tips" area of Drudgereport.com . Hopefully they'll be as pissed about the way the Sheriff's office has handled this as we are. Worth a shot.
