I loved it. Went the first full opening day and had the lunch buffet. Incredible deal for only $12.00 (no kids' pricing). It overlooks a hillside with lots of trees so the view is great too. They have a smoke free area with a bunch of slot machines (no table games there) and there are a few help-yourself free drink stations where you can get your own Diet Coke, coffee, etc......

Overall I'd give it 5 stars so far. And they have a stage behind one of the bars with live music every night. I'll be going up soon to check that out to see about getting some of my bands in there.

It's funny how they had an article in the paper about people getting lost using their GPS. The exit is off Hwy. 50 and clearly is marked "Red Hawk Parkway". You exit and go the only way possible and it's about 500 feet off the freeway. Hard to miss.......

Lots of discussion here:

I didn't care for it. Too much smoke and no place to sit if you're not gambling.

Very friendly staff at Red Hawk Casino: servers, dealers, supervisors, managers.
Help-yourself free drink stations are awesome.
However, the menu and the quality of food/service at Pearl, Wai & Two Rivers Café need a major overhaul.
I have not been to Waterfall Buffet, Koto Grill or Henrys yet.

Went for lunch the other day. Food at Kote Grill was not bad, but nothing special. A little expensive and smaller portions, but nothing outrageous. The servers were slow, and many of the micro-brews advertised were not set up yet. Again, nothing to really complain about, as they are new. Views were nice, although we were not set next to one.

Had a snack later at the 2 Rivers Cafe. It's more of a food kiosk/cafeteria/snack bar setting, so I'm not sure what Naga was expecting. Had some onion rings, very good, very hot, came quickly, would have been happier with a 1/2 order (which was not available). The menu was on digital posters on the wall, and some elderly customers had great trouble reading it. Paper ones were provided at the counter for them. (I swear, these 2 elderly women were still debating what to order, complaining about the prices at the counter holding up the line even after I scooted past them, ordered at hte other register, got my food, and was almost ready to leave before they finally ordered, cane.gif)

Had a long streak of beginners luck on the penny machines dbanana.gif . Walked in with $5 and walked out with $25, so I call that a good haul. Thought about playing "card" roulette, but a $10 minimum bet is too steep for me. (gambling is for fun, not for money making to me)

It's a new place, so the smell of smoke has not yet permeated through all the carpets and walls yet. I'm sure on a weekend night you might disagree.

We went last night and had a very nice time. Lots of smoke, but that's like any casino. The non-smoking floor only had slots, no tables, so that was a bummer. The Kids Quest looked fun for the kiddos. Didn't eat, the wait was way too long, but the options looked nice.

The staff was fantastic and very friendly and accommodating. Also loved that they had free self serve coffee and sodas... that's a nice touch.

I met an "important" person from Red Hawk Casino last night. I suggested to that person that the menu and the quality of food/service at Pearl, Wai & Two Rivers Café need a major overhaul.
Red Hawk Casino appreciated my sincere opinion & I was given two gift certificates ($50 each).

Took a ride out to this casino today with a few buds, it's nice, at least they have motorcycle parking, the only thing I can say is....its a casino, that's about it, nothing major, nothing minor.

The food at Wai and Two Rivers did NOT look appetizing, thought about trying the Pearl restaurant but decided not to, instead came back to Folsom for a nice dinner in town

If you like to gamble, go check it out

the one thing I really didn't like - no coins, everything machine did not take any type of coins, only dollars or cards and payout was via a ticket.... where's the fun in that?

Gosh, I think even south shore lake tahoe is the same way. no more coins in any of those machines. but at least you don't have to cart around a tub of coins or get your hands dirty. but, its true, its not the same as hearing the coins fall!

the funny thing was that the machine made coin sounds as it was printing the ticket... very corny

I dunno about these new machines... I miss the clanky noise of actual coins falling into the tray when winning ... that was part of the thrill of the win

Funny you say that. Casinos don't sound as cool now that you don't hear the "clink-clink-clink-clink-clink" all around you... it's just not the same. They could easily do well by having dollar slots with presidential dollar coins, that would be fun.

Went there last week with my $40 limit late late @ night. Lost $60($20 over my limit) on slots in under 1hr.

I will have to try the buffett someday. Also, I heard that they have a pretty impressive place for kids.

Okay so it's review time. I went to Red Hawk on New Years (gasp), wasn't exactly what I wanted to do but I was with a big group. Driving up there traffic was easy, parking was even easier. Getting into the casino very easy except for some people's need to cram way too many bodies into an elevator.

I got used to the smoke and found it pretty easy to find Henry's. We had reservations for 10 but 12 people actually showed up and Henry's was more than accomodating. I ordered the Lobster Bisque for a starter and it was fantastic. One of my friends had the wedge salad and though it was very crisp and very large portion she was not happy with the dressing (had a lot of dill in it), for me it was okay but not a true wedge salad as far as she was concerned. For the entree's I ordered crab legs (1 lb $32). They came out already cracked (which I loved)...how they tasted is another matter altogether. Now I know there are going to be naysayers who wonder why I'm ordering seafood at a steakhouse but I will say that I almost ALWAYS do this and the reason is that 1. I love seafood, 2. If it's a nice enough restaurant it shouldn't matter, and 3. I have had some of the best seafood ever at Ruth's Cris. The crab was beyond salty and 1/2 of it ended up in my napkin, the other 1/2 was left on the plate. The 3 dining companions at my end of the table all got the 8 oz filet. Now I know that different thickness of steaks make it look like it's not as big but the size differeces in those 3 steaks was unmistakeable. The other funny thing was that the 3 steaks ordered medium all came out in different states of done-ness. One very pink, one actually medium and one medium well.
On a good note each of the diners was very happy with their steaks and their side dishes (mac'n cheese was the bomb).
Another very important thing to note was the service. Top Notch! When they realized I wasn't eating they immediately asked why and took the plate away and took it off the bill (I would have appreciated them asking me if I wanted something else, but was happy with the fact that it was taken off the bill). One of my friends spilled some wine and immediately there were 3 waiters there helping us. We had 2 bottles of red and were only charged one corkage fee, and I never felt like I had to look around for a waiter, there was always one in close proximity. The wine list looked very nice. We had an after dinner drink (there is an old bartender from the Powerhouse working there, can't remember her name but she makes the BEST lemon drops). The place is very nice inside and I only wish you didn't have to walk out into the noisy casino in order to use the restroom. I could have stayed in the Henry's bar all night (but it's only open until midnight).

Another downfall that I see for the casino is there is no Loungey-type area so if you wanted to go and listen to music and sit and have a cocktail while the rest of your party is gambling you can't. Shortly after midnight we went home. So even though I do believe Henry's is good, it's probably night quite good enough to warrant a second visit. I'll save my casino/gambling/steak house eating for Vegas.

My review will be a little different as I don't plan on visiting the place.

My commute home goes in the opposite direction of most traffic, so it hasn't changed.
But on opening day, I did notice the traffic going up the hill was significantly heavier than usual. But now that the opening rush has subsided, the traffic coming up the hill in the evenings seems back to normal.
I would rather be Backpacking

Opening day deposit for the casino was somewhere in the ballpark of 7 million dollars.
