Just a little history on the Pig, one of the 1st forums that I read here, referred to those from the Bay Area as "Bay Area Pigs". So the rest is history..... great.gif

1. But it should not be permitted in the first place.

2. However, if it was permitted to operate then your point listed is valid. biggrin.gif

Absolutely I can say that.

Additionally, if a full blown adult store (no pun intended) opened on Sutter Street, I would visit the neighboring businesses and tell them that my family and I would no longer patronize their businesses with a store like that nearby. I can reasonable expect that they would put pressure on the landlord.

If enough people agreed with me, the store would leave. It's that simple. Money talks.

Here's a link to the article.

When we think of taking the kids for a family day on Sutter street, just what shops and activities are we talking about?

With the exception of the Tea Party place and Snook's, there are very few 'family oriented' businesses on Sutter. As mentioned, there are numerous bars, at least one business I know of has a sign warning people to control their kids, and antiques are hardly the stuff of a good family outing.

I don't bring my family down to Sutter very often. I am more concerned with rowdy drunks stumbling out of the bars than by a fancy underwear store, even with a novelty room in the back.

according to the article, it will be a lot like Evangeline's in Old Sac. Anyone who's ever been there knows that place is a lot of fun and pretty harmless.

As for adult novelties at Evangeline's, most everything is a "gag" gift - immature stuff for bachelor/bachelorette parties, etc...

If the new store is anything like Evangeline's, it will definitely breathe life in to the area. It's a fun store if you have never visited it.

Woo-hoo! When do they open? whistle.gif

Bish, I guess not too many people on these boards have faith in the economics... While true that if noone spends money there, the store won't be able to survive, they reason that some will spend money there, and it doesn't have to be the majority for the store to survive.

The people that object the loudest probably have the most adult 'entertainment' at home.... tongue.gif

Maybe you ought to spend more time on Sutter Street, Steve. There are many family restaurants, shops to browse (even if you have to hold on to your own dang children), events sponsored by the city and the merchants, a Museum, ice cream and Candy, hair salons, etc. It is perfectly acceptable for kids, with the possible exclusion of the S.S. Saloon and the P.Pub.

If this new shop has any blatant display of these novelty items that would be offensive to a family and/or children, I would not support it. If they put up a warning sign and place those items in the back, I'm with Bish (did I ever think that would happen??) that supply and demand will make or break the place.

Tessie

You are correct that there is more to Sutter than bars and antiques.

I do go there for events, but not to shop. I like 'Planet Earth', 'Clouds' and the Fire and Rain Gallery. I just think the objections to the bra and panty store are hollow. Historically, Sutter Street has had more of a reputation as a hang out for bikers and rednecks, or for antiques, than for families.

I don't find women's underwear objectionable.

I hear some of the other merchants may set up a camera and show the disgusting low-life sex-crazed perverts that go in there and put it on a website. I have the code to turn the camera off, just let me know when.

Just a little FYI.... usa.gif

The "sex" industry is a multi-billion dollar industry that over half of all Americans participate in. It generates more annual revenues than all professional sports combined....

I would agree that there aren't really any family oriented businesses on Sutter. I've been there a couple of times and it's pretty boring. I'm in my twenties and don't find antique stores exciting at all. American Visions is pretty nice and so is the Hacienda but most of the shops are geared toward the baby boomers and that's not including their children. I can go to old sac for the day and have a pretty good time. We just went to the Folsom History Museum on Saturday and that was all we went to.

If the shop is similar to Evangeline's then it might liven up Sutter St. I think there needs to be more variety of shops. I don't agree with the adult novelty section since there are many other places people can go for that. I don't think Folsom needs that!

Is that true? If so then that's ridiculous!! They should be concentrating on more important things!

Terry the detective here. What I find interesting about this Sam Dafour is that I've done several searches for him (property ownership in Sac, El Do & Placer Counties; court records in Sac County; and general people search on the internet) and there are NO HITS! Supposedly he's a livelong resident of Sacramento, but you'd never know it by these results.

Has anyone tried to look up a name and had zero results?! Very strange. Maybe he's done a long stretch in prison or something (just kidding), but it just seems odd that he has no "history".

Maybe it's a misspelling (oh, that could never happen in the Bee, could it?). If anyone has any other info on this person, I'd be curious about it.
