Community: Placerville Road Closure for Folsom Plan Area Infrastructure and Road Improvements starting May 3rd

Placerville Road from Highway 50 to White Rock Road is scheduled to be closed for 30 days starting Wednesday, May 3. Scott Road will be available as a detour. This work marks the start of an 18-month schedule of infrastructure and road improvements south of Highway 50 in the Folsom Plan Area.

This spring and summer, construction activities will include infrastructure and safety improvements such as water, sewer, streets and utilities.  The Sacramento Municipal Utility District will build a substation to serve the area with electrical power. Traffic safety and detour signs have been posted for the upcoming work.

The construction was delayed almost a month because of weather. On the current schedule, Placerville Road will be closed between Highway 50 and White Rock Road from the first week of May until the first week of June. When it reopens, Scott Road is scheduled to be closed between the eastbound Highway 50 offramp to White Rock Road until the end of the year.  A portion of a new road named Alder Creek Parkway will connect Scott Road and Placerville Road, and will run parallel to Highway 50. This new road will be completed this summer.

The first homes are expected to be completed in Folsom Ranch (the portion of the site west of Placerville Road) in 2018 and at Russell Ranch (east of Placerville Road to the county line) in 2019. Highlights of the plan area include more than 500 contiguous acres of oak woodlands, 138 acres of community parks, a vibrant town center, new homes, transit improvements to mitigate traffic impacts from the plan area, up to 8,000 high quality jobs, and a new high school, middle school and elementary schools.

Stay up-to-date on the upcoming activities south of Highway 50 by visiting http://folsomranch.com, the Folsom Plan Area section of the City of Folsom website at www.folsom.ca.us/FolsomPlanArea,or by calling the project information hotline at abates@folsom.ca.us

So it took them 14 years.  Probably much longer than they thought, and certainly much longer than I thought.  I enjoyed Placerville Rd. all the way to Spring 2017, but now it's over.   I still remember the Measure W flyers promoting how "open space" would be saved by annexing the land.

Massive traffic on E. Bidwell is only a couple of years away.  Yay!

And in the end, they just took the water from the rest of Folsom, as they promised they wouldn't do.   Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

Agree, Rich T.

On weekend afternoons and weekday evenings, the exits from 50 onto E Bidwell are totally backed up. It can take 10 minutes just to get through that interchange and the light by Fats. How on earth would one conclude we ought to add 20,000 more people to that area?

I've noticed it's even bad around lunchtime during the week.

E. Bidwell/Iron Point is a mess already and will only get worse. Dont forget the massive apartment complex also going up across from Paladio soon.

The only relief that intersection will see will come from the planned overpass at Empire Ranch Rd/Hwy 50 although I hear that is likely years out still.

I have *no problem* adding a little extra distance to my drive and using the Prairie City interchange rather than mess with the Iron Point - E. Bidwell - Hwy 50 disaster.

It's bad all day. But worse during commute hours.

I remember before measure W there was an initiative to require an extra lane on highway 50 and improvements to the highway interchange, and of course new water, before the project could proceed.  The initiative had enough signatures and was going to be on the ballot.  The developer's lawyers somehow got it thrown out on some minor technicality that no one had the money to fight.  Big money almost always wins.  Then Folsom pulled a con job with measure W convincing people that it was some open space saving plan.  They told us that Rancho Cordova would claim the land if we didn't. They lied about the water and the real reason was to increase tax revenue for the city council to play with.  Now it will be like the Galleria traffic nightmare.  I don't want to live in Roseville.  I like Folsom!

Thought I'd reprise this topic, as I've just received an unwanted flier in the mail today, extolling the virtues of S50 development, now called "Folsom Ranch".  They are still needlessly banging the drum about "preserving open space", even as we watch the open space being destroyed before our eyes.  The flier also paints Measure W in terms of voters "outlining the requirements for development", as opposed to the original message of stopping Rancho Cordova from developing the land.  And "complete water independence" is listed as a feature, whereas in reality the N50 levels were reduced and they have laid water pipes to pump the difference to S50.   Traffic will be unthinkably horrible on East Bidwell, but they seem to believe (hope) that other interchanges will relieve that traffic.  They won't, because East Bidwell is the way to get to so many places.   They also seem to think that people will live and work S50, but I don't see how that would be any more true than of N50.  Most people will probably still commute, because they can't choose their employers that granularly.  Finally, I wonder if the Mather flights will continue to cruise low over that zone, or if Folsom Ranch has enough muscle to divert the flights.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on S50, prompted by receipt of the advertisement courtesy of the developers and city.  At least this effort is keeping a lot of people busy and employed.
