We just had a wonderful dinner at The Firehouse in Old Sac this evening.  This was the first time ever we dined there.  We settled on their Prix-fixe dinner for 2, which had three courses and was $50 per person.  First course was a choice of soup or salad.  We chose the soup, a creamy asparagus bisque.  First the waiter brought out a bowl (not a cup) containing the asparagus sprigs.  Then he filled our bowls with the bisque from a copper pot.  Between the soup and hot bread basket, I could have been satisfied enough.  But then an intermezzo cucumber sorbet followed prior to our main course of Chateaubriand.  It must have been an 8 oz portion, and it melted in my mouth.  And if we weren't full enough, the dessert course was a choice of a chocolate mouse bombe with zinfandel sorbet or a creme brulee with strawberry compote.  We had to try both, and they were divine.  Finally, to nearly cause a stomach explosion, the check was accompanied by mini-cake pinafores.  When it finally came time to depart, we could hardly move.

All in all, this was an excellent experience.  Food was great, service terrific, beautiful venue, and reasonable prices (unless you order the $4500 bottle of champagne :) ).

Sounds great! I've been there a number of times, but haven't had dinner. I was most recently for a post-conference event in their courtyard and for the music fest. Beautiful setting.

We had our wedding there in the courtyard and reception immediate after in the court/dining area.  It was wonderful.

By the way, exit the courtyard and walk across the alley to the Back Door, one of Sac's best dives.

Red and black 1960's interior, reasonably priced drinks, great jukebox, and a lounge singer on weekends.

The back door scares the absolute s$&t out of me. The people that roll through that place are very interesting to say the least. Think: kid touchers.
