Actually, there has been widespread condemnation of the attacks by the Muslim community. But like I said earlier, you have to read a bit more, and sometimes the material isn't real easy to find, but it's there. I don't quite know why our media doesn't report this in more detail. Oh well.

I see it on the news all the time. I must say that I have never seen it on FOX, and FOX talking heads are often the ones asking why the muslim leaders aren't denouncing terrorism.

All the time? I think that's exaggerating. I think Gina and Ken are going a bit overboard too.

The truth is that there are many Muslim clerics who denounce these actions, but also a handful who encourage them, and an overall sense that the Islamic community is split on the issue and not speaking with a singular voice one way or the other.

In the US, this condemnation is more common. Overseas, as the cleric in Britain illustrated, there are active religious leaders publicly supporting terrorism.

To say Muslims support terrorism in general is a blatant fallacy.

To say Muslims reject terrorism in general is equally untrue.

I would agree with your final statements- although I did qualify my post by saying that the Western Muslim Populations have condenmed these attacks and terrorism in general .

And this certainly has little bearing on a new Mosque being built in Folsom for an already established and welcoming muslim community here.

I disagree. I think concerns are genuine and valid. For example, on ecould say that Islam is a group whose members are engaged in some 90% of the world's conflicts and they want to build an outpost in Folsom to spread their message.

That is one way to think of it, one way I'm sure many people do think of it. To simply dismiss their concerns is ridiculous.

What is it that you disagree with ?
To Allow an already established group of Muslims to move from their current location ( as they have been in Folsom for over 20 years) to a permanent location no so disilimilar as the Christian groups that work out of classrooms or strip malls to a final location ???

Or that Any of the Muslims to be allowed to congregate in Folsom ???

Neither is logical considering their benign past in the area-

Should they want to set up a cell for terrorist acitivities- I would think they would choose one of their homes- rather than the Mosque-

let us know ...

I still don't get it. Currently they are meeting at other Mosques in Sac or local houses or other venues. Why would a new building encourage them to spread messages of encouraging terrorism? Because there would be a larger numbers of Muslims in one place at a time?

Israel Angry at Pope Over Terror
By VICTOR L. SIMPSON, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 2 minutes ago

VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict XVI faced the first major conflict of his 3-month-old papacy when Israel summoned the Vatican envoy Monday to express outrage that the pope "deliberately failed" to condemn terrorist attacks against Israelis.

Right. If people could follow the news more closely before making their remarks, this forum would be more accurate, and people wouldn't later have to 'amend' their remarks, IMO.

judging by your avatar, somehow you not getting it doesn't surprise me. I doubt you are very open to opposing points of view.

Anyway, I was just positing a possible rationale why people would oppose a mosque.

'I doubt you are very open to opposing points of view. '

Exactly the opposite, which is why I am asking so many questions trying to elicit the views of those who are opposed to the Mosque. I am trying to understand the opinion of those, such as the original poster on this thread.

And now I am confused as to why you would make that direct statement based on my dislike of Bush.

I told you why I assume that. Your avatar...you know that big W with the line through it. When you post that as your identifying image, there is not much hope that you would be a good person to engage in political discussion as it seems you have very strong, very public anti-republican feelings.

Off topic -- or maybe back on topic smile.gif -- I am having troubles with the 70' height of the proposed building (especially when you consider it is already at a 15' or so height above the road). I'm not sure that I want to look out from my house towards Lake Natoma and see spires in the foreground.

Are there any other 70' structures in Folsom?

'I have not yet heard one condemn the acts of terrorism against western civilization. '

Where have you been getting (or not getting) your information about Muslim Americans and their reactions and feelings to terrorism?

I think the period to appeal the mosque has passed based on the SacBee article but I am curious as to what you think is morally wrong with a group of current Folsom and area citizens who are already practicing their religion building a new space where they can continue? Do you think they will be planning attacks or communicating with terrorists in the new Mosque?

This forum "discussion" has definitely done what I had planned it to. I appreciate all of the discussion because it does "educate." I myself am just weary of what has been going on in the western world. I have 2 new children that I helped bring into this world and am being more of a "protective father" than anything else I think. It is nice to see Muslim leaders condemn the acts of terrorism but why is it falling on deaf ears? Are the people condemning these acts credible? Just more questions to gnaw on. To answer your question: Do you think they will be planning attacks or communicating with terrorists in the new Mosque? I can't say that I would know. I am not Muslim nor do I speak or comprehend the Arabic languages. So putting myself at a service would not help me to understand. From what I do understand, in Great Britain the Mosques were the "forum" or meeting places for the terrorists there. So am I paranoid or just wanting to be prepared? I think that we as a community need to pay attention to what is going on and be concerned that the same can happen to us. Again thanks everyone for the wide discussion.
