Talk To Me Instead Of Calling Code Enforcement

Sorry the pile sat out too long for you. I did the pruning over the course of a week and then when I called the City to come pick it up, they didn't have a day open in our area for almost two weeks. Last week I scheduled next Weds, May 16, as the pick-up date. I do not have a pick-up truck to take it to the dump myself.
I really wish you would have asked me what the deal was instead of calling the city. Now our home is declared a public nuisance and if the "abandonded materials" are not gone TOMORROW I may be fined. Since my husband will be out of town, am I supposed to not go into work tomorrow so I can rent a truck to get 'em out of there?
A little communication would have gone a long way. I could have assured you that I had already contacted the City and they were coming to pick it up.

clarification: that was for the branches, not your neighbor. don't cut up your neighbor and place them in the recycle garbage. bad idea.

We recently got our HOA called on us for leaving our trash can out. We'd just had the baby, and it was only a few days! I don't take it too badly, since it's just keeping the neighbourhood nice, but this was the first offense and it's not like we're nuisances. Oh well.

Hey Cindy
Call Pete Picardo at Code Enforcement - Tell him your story and I am sure they won't hassle you. He is really reasonable. He has to respond to complaints, but I am sure he'll understand your situation.

Already left a message for him. I called right after I got the notice in today's mail.
Robert, if I do have to remove the branches tomorrow, I'd love to borrow your truck. Thanks
007, I've already filled up my green waste can. Twice. I did some major pruning and there's way too much for it. I even filled up a neighbor's too.
Sat, they could have just talked to other neighbors about it then because I told at least four households that I had called and they weren't able to get out right away.

Just call me at the office or email me if you need the truck...it drives pretty straight but occassionally it veers to the right.
I agree with Steve about Pete and the rest of the city. They really do go out of their way to accomodate the citizens, so don't get too worried tonight.

You have a good attitude Mylo (on keeping the neighborhood nice). If you had a REAL neighborhood community...it seems like people would KNOW that you just had a baby-- and people would be bringing you guys dinner instead of worrying about the container that got left out...! Flip-side....our neighborhood can have very funky stuff go on and nobody ever calls. I'm always telling my wife that our neighborhood is going to turn into that funky scene in Back to the Future...(2?) where the hood went to the dogs. The biggest crack up to me is when one of my friends criticized someone across the street for making us look "WT" (her words) for putting up a tan mesh tarp to shade an Australian tree fern. Of course, this was the neighbor that put out 2 ft plastic Easter eggs and foil carboard bunnies for a month...and huge rats on her garbage can with glowing red eyes another month. Ahhhh, people. :-) Another one of my neighbors found a big wrought iron gate...kind of something that would be by a modern office building. He put it over the top of his standard wood gate....wait...did I mention the Pacific Coast pine in the 3 foot plastic container that's cabled so it doesn't fall over...but only half it's original size because it broke off and cheerfully decorated with Christmas bulbs every year? Why ask why? Sometimes, I just stand outside and wait for the Delorean to descend....

He He. funny.
CW- I love doing garden work. Give me a holler if you need to load a truck up. I don't have a truck but I'll help you load and unload. + my kids love to this kind of stuff all the time. In fact one of goes to their grandmas just to "help" pick up the fruit and stuff in the back yard.
