A kid from my highschool was busted for breaking into cars, hard to believe at the time because he was an honor student and from a wealthy family. I was thinking peer pressure from his friends or I guess just bored. Seems to happen. I'm also pretty certain he didn't have a drug habit. I think some people as twisted as it is just like the thrill of stealing.

Supermom--I believe it was "North of the River", not north of Folsom.
North of the River is Folsom. ;-)
I couldn't tell from the Police Logs what part of North Folsom these crimes occurred.

No, the kid didn't, but his dealer probably did. (sorry couldn't stop myself.)

Ohhh-ok, well...I live right where the river and the lake meet -so I guess I read into that? Granite bay\north folsom little corner. Turn west and you run into orangevale.

Just 2 weeks ago my next door neighbor's car got broken into in his driveway. No, he didn't leave it unlocked... they smashed the driver side window. Took a pull out stereo, a jacket and some misc stuff. So, locking the doors doesn't always deter them.

No one ever said it does. The harder the security put in place, the fewer number of thieves there are willing to go that far to steal. Your lowest order and highest number are those who search for easy opportunity (the unlocked car). Those willing to step it up a notch aren't deterred by just a lock, but some look for the unalarmed cars so they don't have the loud noise when they jimmy your lock open. At the airport, I take it a step farther, I put a lock that goes from my steering wheel to my brake on my car whenever I leave it at the airport. I figure the car thief that wants to jump in and go for a quick joy ride will see my additional steering wheel lock and will move on to the next vehicle.
My sports car, never gets left anywhere except at work where I can keep an eye on it and even in my garage at home, it's doors are locked and it is alarmed. It's no guarantee it won't get stolen someday, but I'm darn well sure not going to make it easy for the thief to take it.
I would rather be Backpacking

Did the kid come to Folsom on light rail?
Ok, bad joke, I know. Just couldn't resist!

No, he had a bicycle. Those damned bike trails are bringing in the wrong element!
