With all that is going on there nightly, the police is not doing it's job.  They should send some under-cover agents there one night to spend a couple of hours observing the goings-on.  By your description, they will be able to make some busts.

More generally:

Can we perhaps get the City Council to enact a more effective noise ordinance, on behalf of residents?  Isn't that what they are there for, if enough people need resolution to this type of problem?

Personally, though this pales in comparison to the other problem, I do not appreciate the regular Friday morning 6:20 AM leaf blowing in the back yard of my neighbor, as the hired landscapers get an early start to their work day.  I have often wondered if it's legal to make that much noise that early in the morning.  I'm sure other people have other examples of too much noise late at night or early in the morning.

They aren't supposed to start until 7:00 a.m. There is already an noise ordinance for that.  I'm pretty sure the leaf blowers meet the decibel level, too.  The sound of those things is so annoying.

An ordinance for music and parties would be much harder to enforce (Just ask neighbors who surround Sutter St.)   I'd hate to see a grumpy neighbor complain because of the noise at a kid's swim party or music at a backyard BBQ.

Thanks for that info...  I may just ask the guys to start at 7:00 AM from now on.

I have twice been at backyard parties when neighbors called the cops, which I thought was really tight of them.  Once was at 4:00 PM on a Saturday, because a jazz combo was playing during a graduation celebration.  Once was many years ago at a New Year's Eve party, when the neighbors called the cops at 10:00 PM - seriously??

everybody has a video camera in their phone now, right?  take some video of their antics, including sound.  if they are behaving badly in the street and on private property, capture that too.  if the police arrive to find it all quiet because they were seen coming, then show the police the video.

Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

Happened to me as well.

I don't know which neighbor it is, but of the 4 closest to my backyard:

  • One was previously owned by a guy who would take several vacations a year, and leave his big dog outside. Someone would come and feed him, but he'd often bark the night away
  • One is a rental, and the previous renters had a band which practiced there
  • One would go out of town and leave their kids, who would have loud pool parties
  • One was a single guy who liked to entertain in his hot tub

They're all gone now. It sure is quiet. Too quiet...
