I have a 3 year-old male Akita named Seppuku who is constantly barking at anyone he sees or hears around our house. I've heard of a procedure where his "bark" can be removed.

Can anyone help?

It's a rather barbaric procedure.
Call Uncle Matty or another good trainer - fix the behavior; don't break the dog.
FYI, the noise that come out after the dog has been de-barked will be no less annoying.

I agree-- on all accounts--
Our next door neighbor had their beagle debarked and it sounds like it is dying now when it barks-- Pathetic --

Try getting the electronic stimulator to train them - while I do not agree with that myself- it is a better alternative and he/she can learn NOT to Bark...

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

Toto-Rooter, haha
A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

Whether he is joking or not, not only should he not own an animal, but I'll second the comment above.

Try a Tritronics bark collar. My dogs wear them when neighbors let me know they're starting to bark when I am not home. I would try all other options before surgically removing their "bark." I have also heard that this surgery isn't fool proof, they can develop another bark but it is just a bit quieter. I'm glad you're also being proactive and wanting to prevent a problem with the neighbors and good luck.

The tritonics hurts the dog as well.

This is my comment regarding the animals:

It's not the animal.
It's the owner.

I personally don't consider it to be any more barbaric that cutting the wee-wees off a dog, or cropping the ears or docking the tails.

Humans have a long list of unbelievable crimes against animals.

Ps....I don't want to hear that being a responsible pet owner means cutting the wee-wees off a dog. That is not true. Being a responsible pet owner means absolutely making sure your pet never gets into a compromising position that allows for unwanted procreation.

As for the other issues like cancer--it's a load of bs that inflates the spca's reasoning for forcing owners to neuter their dogs.

The truth is--either you get cancer or you don't.

Either you believe you have the right to play god with a dog--or you don't.

I'm sure lot's of you will disagree---but hey, that's ok.

The guy (or girl) that started this was a troll. It posted 6 topics the day he/she signed up and has vanished since then. Can we lock this topic?

Why?

Whats it to you if the poster isn't here daily like us?
