The Folsom Cordova Unified School District sent out a bulletin this afternoon stating that enrollment at Vista del Lago High School is at max capacity, and any new students moving into the Vista attendance boundary will have to enroll at Folsom High for the 2019/2020 school year.

Students may be placed on a waitlist, but there is no guarantee they will be cleared to go to Vista.

The problem is that Vista del Lago was built for a smaller population, and there is no room for growth.

Folsom High, on the other hand, has plenty of slots for enrollment, and as it sits on 65 acres, there is room for development and/or temporary classrooms as needed.

Note that Folsom High is rated 10 out of 10 by Great Schools, and has an outstanding record for academics (2018 Academic Decathlon Champs), sports (4 time state champion football team) and the Folsom High Jazz Band has been consistently ranked among the best in the country. So, the kids won't anything by going there. It just may be a little further away for some.

To enforce the new policy, the district will be verifying addresses to make sure that kids are going to the schools they are supposed to go to.

There is talk of redrawing the boundaries for next year, but nothing concrete thus far.

Meanwhile, in ARC south, they are not enthused about letting kids go to FHS (or Folsom schools in general). That being despite the fact that we pay taxes to BOTH districts (Folsom and SanJuan) and are Folsom residents.  It was always sketchy to see if our kids would be granted enrollment to Folsom schools. Glad we are done. However, my in-laws are dealing with that now.

I spoke with a veteran real estate person yesterday and we both agreed it is not,  "location, location, location".    We agreed it is, "school district, school district, school district".     When I moved to Folsom in the early 2000's,   I was looking at a home under construction in the Empire Ranch area.    The property was still available and the back yard side of the property faced Empire Ranch Elementary.    Empire Ranch was closed to new students.   On the property information Theodore Judah Elementary was listed as the grade school for the property.   My wife and I did not purchase that property and I do believe a home in Folsom is worth more if Vista Del Lago is listed as the High School.

School district is quite important, and as you proved, so is the specific school. I don't know that we can say that homes in the Vista boundary are more valuable than Folsom, though.

If they are, it's not to a large degree.

I don't think I've had more than a couple of people ask for a home in Vista boundary since they've been open. I think they were attracted by the block schedule more than anything else.

It's hard to put an exact value difference on the properties because most Vista homes are newer, and many of them are larger.
