Stopped by on a whim Friday around 5pm. Place was dead and the patio hadn't been cleaned in months. But they have a great happy hour. Just wondering if the pizza is still good since the place seemed to have no traffic and could use some TLC.

Used to love their pizza years ago. But all my pizza-eating these days is the frozen imported Italian pizzas from Trader Joes. Much cheaper, and I like them better than American pizza.

I like their pizza and we get it delivered from time to time. 20-30 Club has been meeting there sometimes lately. However the service has been uniformly terrible the entire time I've lived here (no one at the counter, no one clearing dishes, etc...) I think they must subsist on their lunch buffet since it's the only time I've seen them look busy.

We use to order takeout from there a lot when we lived in Natoma Station. Always liked their pizza and haven't felt they changed the last time we ate there last month.
I know there are people who think their pizza is crap, but I'm not one of them. Have always thought they were pretty good and better than any chain pizza places around town
There are times when the place is dead inside which isn't a bad thing if you ask me. THey know this, and staff accordingly so you just have to be patient if they happen to get a rush of phone orders.

Pizza is still good -- our favorite take-out pizza in town. Service is usually pretty friendly but there are times when it can be slow.

Last time I went, about 3 months ago, it was dirty and the servers stood around talking. Honestly, this is why mom n pop places fail. They get successful, the owners rely on the revenue and forget to watch the business on a daily. This is why chains are successful even if the food is only fair. Cleanliness really says a lot about a restaurant to most. In fact, if the restaurant is not very clean, you can count on the kitchen being filthy and a hazard.
The pizza was good, not great. A pizza is sauce and toppings. The crust is the only thing that really separates it since most restaurants get their pizza toppings from the same few companies. With this said, why not just go to Peet's Pizza on Folsom-Auburn. Great happy hour, clean and great service and the prices are better. You would think that Ciro's would get the message. Pizzeria Classico suffers from the same issues as Ciro's in my opinion. Over priced and not the cleanest or best service out there.

we still go to Ciro's because they have the best pizza and salad lunch buffet.

You've never dined at a chain restaurant that was filthy dirty and workers were standing around taking doing much of nothing. Hmmm, see it all the time...
Chain restaurants succeed because people flocks to names they are familiar with.

Bad service can kill a business.
I remember going to TGIFridays in San Bruno some years back, and you could smell the bathroom chemicals when you walked in the door. I wanted to leave, kids were hungry, so we stayed and had terrible service. I sent a note to the manager and he offered to buy us dinner. I declined and told him I'd never be back, but to get it taken care of for future customers. They were closed within a year of that.
Then there was the time I went to interview a job candidate at Black Angus, because it was half way between our offices. We got there at 4pm, and sat at a table in the bar area. I kid you not, we were the only customers in the place. We 'd been there a good 5 minutes or more, and saw 3 employees standing at the end of the bar, chatting. I walked over to them and asked if we could put in an order, and one replied, 'that station's closed'. They went out of business shortly after.
We gave Applebee's 2 chances. The first time, it was slow, and we were seated by the hostess, in the bar area. The server passed us twice without so much as a glance at us. The bartender was cleaning and even came out from behind the bar to clean a table. I asked her if we could put in an order, and she said, 'Your server will be right with you'. Again, we waited, until finally the bartender went in the back and got the server. 'Sorry, I thought the bartender was taking care of you'. Honest misake.
The second time, it was pretty busy, but after waiting for 45 minutes for our meals, we left, as did the couple at the next table. Applebee's is gone now.
Bad service can kill your business.
Anyone or any business can have a bad day, but consistently bad is inexcusable.
Good service, on the other hand, will keep you coming back, even if the food isn't the greatest.
We recently tried Seasons 52. My wife made reservations, and they asked for our email address. She sent an email confirmation, along with the address, a link to their website and the phone number in case we needed to change it.
Service was good. The price for what we got, $15 for a flight of 3 2 oz pours of wine, a full glass of our favorite, and a flatbread, was a great deal. Flatbread was decent but not awesome.
After we left, they sent another email thanking us for the business, and asking if we'd complete a survey.
I rated the food as 'good', and all others as very good or great.
The manager called and left a voicemail asking what they could do better.
I don't expect a pizza joint or most chain restaurants to go that far, but training people to take care of their customers and their restaurant can be the difference between growth and shutting the doors.

So I had to sit there while they made new ones, and then they got the order completely wrong on top of it because they couldn't remember what I had ordered. So rather than ask me what I wanted they guessed. It was a disaster. I finally told them I wasn't paying for it.

One of my unpleasant experiences involve the owner, at least indirectly. Back in September or so, called in a take out order about 530 I told them I would be there to pick it up at 6:15. I got there and they told me it wasn't ready. There was no one there. I pushed the girl and asked her what the problem was and she admitted that the owner decided he wanted to take pizzas home and mine were ready so he took those.

wow!! that is a horrible experience. there is a couple of things going on here, but clearly the customer was last in this scenario. the employee should not have ratted out her boss to save her own skin (shows a lack of identify/team work with the store) and the owner should never have taken his customer's food home, thereby providing his employees with a perfect example of how NOT to put the customer first. dang!

I gave Applebee's a couple of chances and they failed every time. The last draw was when I took my family there one evening, the entire place was nearly empty and there was only one other couple besides us. We sat down at our table and waited and waited and waited. I saw the staff standing by the bar chatting but they apparently didn't give a crap about their jobs nor the restaurant.
I'm an optimist and believe in giving people a chance, so I set my iphone timer and gave them 5 minutes to respond. If nobody acknowledges our presence within that time frame - good bye! (I do this at any restaurant where service seems too slow)
And so that's what happened, 5+ minutes went by and my timer went off - still nobody came by, so we all stood up and left. I will never EVER set foot inside that crappy restaurant chain again - anywhere anytime - and I was glad to see them go out of business so that someone else could make better use of that building. I despise Applebees so much that if I'm out with family and they want to go there I tell them to have a good time because I won't go there.
This happened years ago and since then I have (mostly) sworn off dining at chain restaurants - thanks for that Applebees!

I had a similar experience there several years ago. Called in my order, went in to get it and it wasn't ready. Ended up waiting over an hour to get it. While the pizza was good, the service was ubber crappy and so we do not go there anymore.
For me a restaurant has to have mastered the following 3 items, otherwise I won't ever do repeat business with them:
1) Quality Food, 2) Quality Service, 3) Nice Ambiance.
