Does anyone know if Folsom offers soccer or other sports for 3 year olds? I was talking to a guy on my adult soccer team in EDH and he said they have a soccer/Tball combo league for real little kids

Three seems so little! I can't imagine that you can really effectively get three year olds to work as a team. How about getting some neighborhood kids to one of the fields to run around and try to kick the ball? I can't imagine that you can really effectively get three year olds to work as a team. Could there be much cuter than three year olds trying to run and kick at the same time?

Parks & Rec has "Itty Bitty" sports (http://www.folsom.ca...rts/default.asp). I think its not meant to be so much a "team sport" as exposing the kids to different sports to see if they'd like it. For soccer, Folsom Soccer Club has teams for kids that turn 4 by Aug 1. The two baseball little leagues (Folsom American and Folsom National, depending on which side of town you live on) start in K/1st grade with 5-6 year olds.

Just a heads up, most of the sports leagues in Folsom have registrations about 6 months prior to the start of the season. It's easy to miss the sign-ups the first year if you're not watching for them.

Not sure what response you will get, but I wish you well. My eldest will turn 18 tomorrow and is still a "rare breed" as a 3 sport athlete in HS. This all started when he was 3. He was taking a swim class (we wanted him to grow up knowing how to swim and feel safe around water) when a coach approached us and said their were 3 other boys that swam at meets every week but couldn't compete in relays because they needed a 4th that could swim butterfly. Oddly enough, our little bugger could swim fly like a champ?! And so it began....since then he has tried soccer, tee-ball, baseball, track, basketball, football, wrestling, you name it.

What I find interesting and unique to CA, is that I am sure you will hear a ton of people suggest that 3 is too young. Yet is I start a separate thread about 4 being too young I will get equal or greater negative responses that indicate that their child is ready, or bored, or a flat out genius emotionally mature beyond his/her years and perfectly capable of handling the rigors of kindergarten.

Suffice to say, I believe that everyone is different and you have to do what you feel is best for your child. I know that Mad Dawgs wrestling starts very young and I am sure there are swimming, soccer, martial arts and baseball programs that are similar. Don't be discouraged by the folks that throw out the "too young" hysteria. A kid has never been hurt being too active. As long as a kid is having fun, keep signing them up! My eldest swam for a few years and won his share of shiny medals and trophies. After a few years, we asked "Are you ready to sign up for swimming again!?" (fully expecting our miniature Mark Spitz to jump for joy!)...and he responded, "NAAHHH, I ALREADY KNOW how to swim, I want to play tee-ball!!" ;)

Amazingly enough, little bodies are probably THE best at letting you know when they are tired....I have seen kid sleeping in bleachers and outfields without a care in the world!! HAHA Best of luck to you!

There's a soccer skills thing for ages 2.5-5 through the city at the Sports Complex. My son did it once and wants to do it again this Fall. I thought it was boring because it was all skills and drills. The boy loved it though.

Look at it from a coaches perspective and trying to get a bunch of 3yr olds to all partake in the same activity. Its nearly impossible... Unless you have a majority of parents that are willing to get involved which I find is the exception it just isn't productive. I coached my sons soccer team when he was 4 and his T-ball team when he was 5 and it often felt more like babysitting than coaching. I can't imagine trying to do it with 3yr olds. If your looking to get your kids active at that young of an age there are plenty of other things you can do besides organized sports. My $.02

After seeing all the kids participate in the soccer skills thing, I'd have to agree. The skills class is fine because they just run around and kick the ball and learn to follow the coaches directions. It was still mayhem, though. I can't imagine trying to actually organize a game at that age.

Most kids can't take direction at 3 (some can't at 30). I remember when I put my 4 year old in soccer. During one game, she sat down in the middle of the field and shouted, "I'm boring!" (I think she meant that she was bored).

Then there was the kids karate class. One day the instructor was telling them something about how to line up. One kid was so scared she pee'd the floor.

A month or so later the instructor asked me to sit in. I tried not to be scary, but one kid started crying when I approached him.

I never taught kids that small again!

I have a child turning 5 early 2015. What are the options for team sports he can join soon?  interested in t-ball, soccer or basketball.  I'm hoping someone who has been through it can give me some info.  Thank you.

Recreational soccer games will be starting September 6th.  You can go to folsomsoccerclub.org for more info.  All three of my children played soccer and loved it.

He can play T-Ball in Folsom if he is 5 by April 30. If not, Orangevale has a community league that let's 4.5 y.o. kids play.

I think there are a few places that offer gymboree. Includes water safety, stretching, basic tumbles, dancing (at that age it is really jumping up and down). Have you tried Tricks?

Also, I think folsom used to do a tiny tot indoor soccer camp during business hours at the community center. I have no idea if they still do. My kids both participated in the skills soccer teams as 5-9 yr olds at the Sports Complex - outdoor
