So far, a wild and crazy season.

Major players getting injured; Brady, Merriman, Umenyiora

Top teams getting off to poor starts; Patriots (they're supposed to be good because of their SYSTEM), Chargers (yes, they got burned, and yes, they looked great last night)

Surprise division leaders; Buffalo, Tennessee, San Francisco

I know it's too early to talk about who's going to do what, but I get all excited and goose-bumpy at this time of year.

What's your favorite NFL story this year?

I may be a bit biased, but Rivers is gonna be MVP. Nice to see Norv finally utilizing him, and it will pay off.

now you're talking!

man, did Brett embarrass himself last night or what? That guy seriously has to be kicking himself right now saying "I should have STAYED retired"

he could have gone out in a blaze of glory but instead he'll go out with an embarrassing record of sacks and interceptions

now how about them Chargers? they're doing pretty darn good this year and could be contenders

What's really funny is that if Brett had just stayed retired, he'd be playing for the Pats right now. I'll be he's kicking himself for that one. He was definitely looking his age last night, although with all the passes the Chargers dropped, it could have been a lot worse.

Norv Turner = Great regular season - 1 and done in the post season.

Builds a very solid team with what he has, doesn't "coach" well head to head when he has to make adjustments.

P.S. Brees is still a better QB that was available at 1/2 price.

1 and done, as in last year? tongue.gif

Brees WAS the better QB prior to the injury. Not so sure about that anymore.

SD was stuck, admit that you had spent WAY TOO MUCH to get talent inferior to what you already had on the roster (bench most of the time) OR send him packing with a sore shoulder and spin it that "Thank Goodness we spent all that dough on a great youngster...now please be patient as he "develops"" biggrin.gif

Since the so called injury, Brees has completed in 35 straight games, thrown over 4,400yds/yr., averaged 27 TD passes/yr. and has a less than 2:1 TD:Int. ratio.

During that same time Rivers has completed in 35 straight games, has not thrown over 3,400yds/yr., averaged about 21 TD passes/yr. and has about a 2:1 TD:Int. ratio.

Brees has had to throw more as he doesn't have LT standing next to him, but it certainly wouldn't have made $ sense to keep them both.

Yeah, I'm a homer too biggrin.gif

Rivers just got what a #4 pick should get...of course it's a lot for sitting on the bench though. I was pretty P.O.'d when they let Brees go.

You are right, Rivers' numbers would have been quite a bit higher with no LT and less conservative play calling. I think he's starting to hit his stride now though.

Hold on a minute now, Hoss!

Don't bury ol' Brett just yet.

He throws an average of 14 interceptions per year, just under 1 per game, and hadn't thrown any until last night. Out of 31 rated quarterbacks this year, he's currently second in competion percentage (70), 10th in QB rating, and 3rd in touchdown passes.

Last night's loss has more to do with the talent he's surrounded with and the time he's had to practice with them rather than his age or diminishing skills.

Look for the Jets to stay close and make the playoffs as a wild card.

Looks like Rivers left his mangina at summer camp this year. Good thing too, with LT not producing, Rivers is making me mad points in my Fantasy League.

Of course, I wasted my Round 1 pick on Tom Brady this year. Too enough slack from my wife last year for not picking him. pffft. First, last and only time I listen to her opinions on my FF picks.

When your starting QB is still reviewing the playbooks on the sidelines between possessions that's not a good thing.

Well I'm a Lions fan, and it's the end of September, so I'm already looking ahead to the draft.
