The Giants just signed Tim Lincecum (last years Cy Young winner)for $650,000 for the 2009 season.

They also have Matt Cain, and Randy Johnson (yes that Randy Johnson) as starting pitchers... and Barry Zito.

This may be the best pitching staff in MLB (or at least in the top two). Unfortunately their bats are about as weak as any team in years.

In other news Manny Ramirez has not yet decided to accept 45 million to play 2 years for the Dodgers. What the hell is there to decide when you are offered 45M to play baseball? Maybe he's hoping for a better offer from the present administation (45 Billion? 450 Billion?)

The Giants have an excellent pitching staff but desperately need a bat. I'd even take some scrappy guys who are good at getting on base.

Tim wasn't signed, he was given a bump up in pay (a raise). The Giants didn't have to do that, but they wanted to show they were behind him. He doesn't come up for arbitration for a few years.

The Giants are poised for a nice run at the NL West crown, for no other reason than the rest of the division stinks. The pitching staff is solid and they have some potential with Sandoval, Ishikawa, Bowker and down the road Buster Posey, Madison Bumgarner and others. This year will be about getting a good look at the kids and letting them play in the majors to find out who is for real. I think the Giants are looking at 2010 as the year they will really start to be a legit contender for a long overdue World Series crown.

Sorry but Zito sucks now and Johnson is like 50 years old. Don't hang your hat too much on this star studded staff.

Well, we're 2-6 heading into the series finally against the Bums.

Hey, at least we've got Zito on the hill today... oh, wait... nevermind.

Haha...see my post above, Zito sucks. His ERA is like 10. Giants back to normal already.

No, but the season just started. Plus, the Giants actually have good players and still they still suck.

They'll rebound to a slightly mediocre season. They can't win without a bat though.
