Chris, I understand what you are saying, but those dictators hardly do without their fancy liquor, clothes, houses cars or anything else they want.  The joke is, everybody at the top in those countries thinks socialism is great and communism is even greater! People from Cuba don't risk their lives trying to get to the USA in flimsy boats because they love where they live. What some on this board want is the most idealistic of worlds, where effort to produce anything for one's self is never expected and other people work because they like to and to give their earnings away gladly. (Service to the community and doing good...) Then the takers can keep taking and telling everybody that they are, in fact worthy, sitting on their butts and doing nothing. But we know that losers do little but whine and successful people are too busy working to go that route.

In the last thirty or so years much has been done to help the poor and those on the streets, but the problems are much greater. The governor of Sacramento is asking that business owners chip in 20 million to make tiny houses for the homeless. It will be interesting to see what the very kind governor of Sacramento will say when his efforts to house the homeless fail....oh wait, he'll be gone by then. But seriously, asking business owners to pay out millions for the homeless to live in little houses?  What about food, clothing and the cost of utilities? Sounds like some have never heard of a Pandora's Box.  Or have never had a loser brother-in-law come and stay until they get on their feet!  When he finally leaves, it's to go to another relatives house who is more understanding.....until they too, see what a loser he is. He'll tell his hard luck story to anyone who might give him a bed for the night, but never look for a job because that's not in his game plan.

Some need to wake up.  Being homeless is now a new life style and we may as well face the fact that only tough law enforcement will end the trend. Wrong choices have consequences....and nobody owes anybody a living.

Rose,  unfortunately, I have no sympathy for the homeless, or the politically correct "residentially challenged" (I heard a Folsom PD member use that term a while ago)..  Every time I see a homeless person, I see a life of bad choices.  There is a tiny part of the homeless crowd who have had an extraordinary string of bad luck.  It happens.  I believe it's appropriate to help them until they get back on their feet, which they will.   The rest of them deserve no help.  Why should I work my butt off so some other guy can have a nice life?

We frequent many of Folsom's parks while walking the dog, and have seen homeless in most of them.  There are two general groups of homeless, one group are usually young, boisterous, probably dealing drugs, and dangerous.  The other group are old, quiet, stay in the shadows, don't want to be seen, and benign. I understand there is a large homeless camp in the eucalyptus trees on the west side of Folsom Blvd near Glenn Drive.  It's on State Park land and Folsom PD has no jurisdiction.   Folsom PD does a pretty good job of keeping them out of sight, out of town.  The median household income in Folsom is $118,000, and we pay a lot to live in our bubble.  Keep it clean.  Let the homeless live in their bubble, perhaps in the rural parts of Nevada.

I'm sorry....you didn't catch that sarcasm?  The Sacramento mayor acts as if he is a governor with all his grandstanding and big plans to revitalize the despicable city of Sacramento. In fact, I think he'll probably be the next governor of California. It's clear he's saying and doing everything to indicate he will run. You know, pushing for DACA people, trying to get funds to build homeless camps and in general, kissing every baby and hating on President Trump.  Can you tell I can't stand the man? I thought I'd help you out getting the gist of what I'm saying. I'll try to be more clear in the future. :)

I hear ya!  Unfortunately, the homeless pose a health risk to everyone around them as well as troubles with the trash they leave and the crimes and drug use they do. They tried to get a handle on the problem in San Fransicko, but couldn't.  Now, Mayors are dealing with city image concerns, here and in Sacramento as businesses pay high taxes and want something done.  The only problem is, who's going to play for it? I don't think they can convince tax payers to pay more than they already do. It's only a problem because of the poor way it's been handled by our leaders in the past. They've done things that attract the homeless, instead of repel them.

Bonuses Aside, Tax Law’s Trickle-Down Impact Not Yet Clear

https://www.nytimes....ump-impact.html

President Trump and top Republican lawmakers have praised many of the companies that are disclosing tax-cut-fueled bonuses and wage hikes.

For the most part, though, they are not indicative of the windfalls that companies are reaping from the $1.5 trillion tax law — and how much of that money that might trickle through to workers in the years to come.

Bank of America’s bonuses will cost the bank $145 million in 2018, or about 5 percent of the nearly $2.7 billion in savings it is expected to reap in 2018 from a lower, 21 percent corporate tax rate. Apple’s bonuses will cost $300 million, a fraction of the $40 billion, at least, that the tech giant is saving from a single provision in the law, which allows it to return earnings held overseas at less than half the rate it would have paid under the old system.

And two days before Walmart snagged glowing headlines for handing out $400 million in bonuses and lifting its minimum wage at a cost of $300 million, the nation’s largest retailer by sales unveiled a plan to buy back company-issued debt. The cost of the buyback: $4 billion.

Mmm! $700 million to the workers, $4 BILLION to the execs.
Taxpayers stuck with the bill.

Sorry Ace, don't you remember all the headlines about companies investing in America and their workers during Obama's tenure?  Oh wait....

Yep, that got a lot of guys and gals in uniform killed...   All conservative voters, in uniform of course, so it did not matter..   Still waiting on that story from the MSM.....   I won't hold my breath.  Chris

FedEx announces wage increases, bonuses amid tax reform

http://thehill.com/p...amid-tax-reform

FedEx announced wage increases, employee bonuses and pension funding on Friday, citing the new Republican-backed tax-reform plan.

The company announced that two-thirds of $200 million in increased compensation will go to hourly employees, while the remainder will be put toward performance-based incentive plans for salaried employees.

FedEx also said $1.5 billion will be put toward the company's pension plan and another $1.5 billion would go toward expanding the company's hub in Indianapolis.

"FedEx believes the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will likely increase [gross domestic product] and investment in the United States," the company said on its website.

TRUMP OWNS *CRYIN' CHUCK* SCHUMER: Donald Trump tweeted on Friday that, “DACA has been made increasingly difficult by the fact that Cryin’ Chuck Schumer took such a beating over the shutdown that he is unable to act on immigration!”. Article below. Funny to see Dems get outmaneuvered and outsmarted by that "dumb guy" Trump!  Hey, Dems, isn't it time to *throw in the towel*?    Checkmate!
