Dr. Kevin Grant fulfills what the original poster stated as important. He listens to parents and is so gentle with the children. His office staff is easy to deal with too. He respects your role as the parent and does not put you down for choosing an alternative vaccine schedule or using a home remedy. He is very down to earth. Sometimes I wish he was a tad more aggressive in testing and treatment. I love that he is always available by phone unless he is on vacation which is rare so you don't have to talk to a different doc you don't know when something comes up at night or on the weekend. Same goes for his office staff. It's nice to get to know the same people visit after visit.

I know she has already been mentioned but I just have to say Dr. Garg, Dr. Garg, Dr. Garg! I loe her.! I actually used to take my two girls to Dr. Arab's office and would see Dr. Wolfrey. He is a very nice man but he has misdiagnosed my oldest daughter 3 times and my youngest once! They are only two and a half and 11 months! I got tired of his mistakes so I would see Gr. Garg when I would go into the office. I have to agree with the others when they say this his office is horrible run! Anyway, I continued to go there because I came to love Dr. Garg and so did my girls. She has a very good bedside manner about her and made my older daughter feel very comfortable when she would come in (she used to scream bloody murder anytime we would get close to the doctor's office). It is true she is pretty cautious. However, I would rather have a very conservative doctor when it comes to my girls and I can choose to filter out what I think is serious and not serious. She has her own practice now, Mission Care Periatrics and it is clean, friendly and very well-run! My new nephew also goes to her because my sister-in-law got tired of hearing me rave about her! If you are still in the hunt for a good ped, or anyone else is for the matter...Dr. Garg is a great way to go and she is right here in town!

Dr Garg is awesome for my kids. We used to have Dr Arab, but his office folks are the most unprofessional/poorly trained folks that I have eve dealt with. We love Dr Garg.

I COMPLETELY agree with everything stated above about Dr. Grant. We really like him a lot and love that he does house calls if need be. I have no trouble getting either of my girls in for a same day appointment. Oh, and once my husband and I brought my daughter in for a sore throat and my husband thought he might have an ear infection. Dr. Grant checked his ears and wrote him a prescription along with the one for my daughter! wink.gif

We went to Dr. Garg for the first time on Monday and she was great. Thanks for the referral.

I also have had lukewarm experience with Dr. Lloren's group. He is okay. It takes 2 weeks to get "non-sick" child appointment and it's usually with one of the nurse practitioners. I have not had great experiences with the NP's. The front office takes 10 minutes to answer the phone. Granted you do get referrals to specialists quickly but you have to deal with humming and haaaing before they give you the referral. I'll be switching as soon as I can.

Ya, the NP's are not great and I always request Dr. Lloren. I haven't had trouble getting in to see them, however and I haven't had issues with the office. I guess we have been lucky.

Definitely not any better. If anything I would say worse. New nurses every time we go - I have three children and we are there twice a month...We are done, but I can't decide who to switch to!

It's a bit of a moot point at this juncture, but I'll tell you we love Dr. Arab. We have been going to him for 10+ years and no matter how sick our kids are, he always -always- kisses them and makes them feel like rock stars. I can live with any dim wit nurse out front for a Dr. that truly cares about the kids. He remembers all the little-kid-type personal quirks our kids have had over the years. Including when our middle guy used to carry a wooden kitchen spoon around 24 hours a day. He called it a "spatcha" and Dr. Arab still calls him "Spatcha Man!" to this day.

He did fight us tooth and nail when we laid out our personal vaccination schedule. But, the bottom line was we are the parents and we have the final say. He respected that.

On several occasions I have seem him "educate" a nurse who did not have the appropriate amount of compassion for an ill child. I loved, and agreed with, every epsiode I saw.
YMMV.

I agree. Dr. Arab is wonderful. Soooo sweet with the kids. Some of his office staff members, at least at his Carmichael office, are horrific. I used to take my kids to that office when we lived in Antelope.

One time one of my kids was sick and needed a prescription. I think it was a urinary tract infection or an ear infection - something really painful. I remember needing the prescription ASAP if not sooner. Friends were at work. Hubby was out of town. Went to the office and the whole nine yards. Well it turned out that they sent my kid's prescription to the wrong pharmacy, which didn't have a drive-thru. Normally not a big deal, but my health was extremely poor at that time. I was partially disabled and could barely walk. I needed help just doing basic grocery shopping, etc. It was really bad. I had already taken the kids to the doctor by myself and there was no way I would have been able to do another trip of getting them in and out of the car on my own.

Anyway...

So I figure no big deal, I'll just ask them to call it into the pharmacy I could get to. The lady I talked to about it was really snotty about it when I asked her to have it called in again. I figured that maybe since she didn't know about my health challenges and physical limitations, that she figured it was just a picky mom who didn't feel like driving the extra three miles. So I explained my situation. I told her that the prescription may as well have been called in to Hawaii because there was no physical way I was going to be able to get to that pharmacy and pick the prescription up.

Then she said, "Well, THAT'S not my problem." And she HUNG UP on me.

Of course, I called back and raised hell until they called it into the right pharmacy.

But that was SOOOO messed up. I was so mad that I had a kid in pain and that woman felt that she had the right to do that.

I also saw so many times the office manager being blatantly and loudly rude to parents in that office.

I was so disappointed to hear the same complaints about Dr. Arab's office in Folsom that I saw in Carmichael. I had actually been looking forward to my kids seeing him again.

I changed to Sutter Children's Health in Roseville (James Day, MD) after the hang up incident. Love him. Love the building too. Very easy access to the office, which is downstairs, and a huge parking lot. If you don't mind the drive to Roseville, Dr. Day is awesome. Such a sweetheart. He's an older guy. He looks like an old country doctor that they sent over from central casting. He has always been very attentive to my concerns and questions as well as being great with the kids. Not sure how he feels about vaccines or any of that, but I would bet that even if he doesn't believe what you do that he would talk with you about it rather than talk down to you. I'd guess that he might try to convince you to vaccinate, but I can't picture him browbeating you or treating you like a moron.

We are taking our new baby to Dr Wolfrey who is in Dr. Arabs office....we absolutly love Dr. Wolfrey, if we had any questions or need anything he always returns my calls within an hour or so. Dr Arab did our sons circ and Dr Wolfrey came and visited my newborn in the hospital even though he didnt have to since he had already been seen by another pedi. The office may not be the best but the Drs are very knowledgeable and friendly and compassionate!

Our baby is seeing Dr. Grant and he's very very gentle with her and the staff is real nice. Very laid back - easy going group of people.

I have considered switching to Dr. Hepworth (who saw my baby in the hospital when she was born) though only because his office is more "doctor office"-ish. The nurses wear scrubs, there is antibacterial containers on the walls of every room etc. They even have a special back area with a private entrance for kids with rashes, pink eye, chicken pox or whatever to keep them from spreading the virus to other patients.

Dr. Grants office is very old school. No gloves, no antibacterial containers, nurses just wear regular every day clothes etc. It sort of bothers me, but they are so nice and they all love to see my baby when she comes in. Makes me feel like they really care about each child.

Both doctors are very good though.

Interesting comment. Do you think your children are more likely to get sick from a doctor's vist at Dr. Grants compared to Dr. Hepworth's? I'm confident that Dr. Grant and Lynn wash hands or use a sanitizer between patients and that they have gloves. I'm curious though, when did they not wear gloves that you thought they should have?

Can anyone recommend a good Pediatrician? I have gone thru 4 of them since Jan of 2006. I want someone who doesn't rush you out like cattle but who is firm and loving. Beside manner is important but not a must. I want someone who is for the child and listens to the parent. I also want someone who is willing to let me do my own vaccine schedule as well. I live in the Folsom area.

Thanks.

I can't say enough good about Dr. Wolfrey. We absolutely love him and are completely confident in his abilities and advice. He is wonderful. His office staff used to be really terrible and we only stayed because we love Dr. Wolfrey so much, but the staff has turned over and is much better now. Good luck!

Is Dr.Arab's office still like that? We just read some posts which recommended Dr.Arab and decided that he would be the pediatrician for our baby (due early Nov). But, now if the office is trouble some, i might want someone else to come and look at my baby in the hospital. Who has been lately to Dr.Arab's office? Also, any idea if dr.Grant would is accepting new patients?
