I stumbled upon a brand new Asian restaurant opened up on Riley in the same building as Kinkos.

T2 Yan was on hiatus from their late-night hours, and as I drove down Riley, noticed the lights from this new restaurant.

They had just closed, but the owner opened up and said he'd make me something to go. He invited me and my wife in and offered us lemon water while, we waited.

We had wor wonton soup and pea sprouts with garlic sauce and brown rice. Fantastically delicious!

The owner, his wife and the waiter were super friendly and talkative. He is from Hong Kong, and told me he opened his first restaurant at the age of 18. He just relocated here from the Bay Area. The waiter is from Canton and spent a couple of years at a Spanish restaurant in Manhattan.

They said they didn't advertise or have a grand opening yet because they wanted to see how everyone worked together as a team. They are ready for business.

The place is really nice and upscale, and so are the prices (although they do have lunch specials for $7.95). The quality was good, the people very friendly and the food delicious. I hope they make it in that spot.

Give them a shot.

Thanks for the info. Here's their website: http://www.folsompal.../aboutus911.cfm

I love this: their website says they use less sodium, less oil, and no MSG. :)

I was just reading the Folsom Rewards print ad that arrived on Saturday and saw they are in it. I was wondering why I had nothing about them before.
There is a coupon for 10% off through 7/15 in the ad. The Ad picture looks nice inside the place and they have a nice Patio as well.

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

They were in my neighborhood yesterday handing out menus, from the looks of their items they've got a lot of very tasty dishes - I can't wait to get over there and try them out soon!

Thanks for posting about this

Thanks for the info, will definately give them a try. Sounds like Toby Keith management should stop by to see how to do a soft opening.

Finally, a restaurant that isn't a chain and less sodium to boot! Now, how about a few more to round out the palate please!

My husband and I went to Folsom Palace for dinner tonight and it was excellent! :2thumbsup: :cheer: :2thumbsup: :cheer: :2thumbsup:

The service was very, very good -- attentive and observant. We ordered Mu Shu Pork and Kung Pao Chicken.

The Mu Shu Pork. We usually find that restaurants don't provide enough pancakes for how much food is served so we inquired about that and ordered two extra pancakes. Six is just right. Unlike many Chinese restaurants, the pancakes weren't paper thin, porous things that fall apart when you pick them up. The pork was outstanding. Since this is one of our favorite dishes we're pleased as punch. :coolman: :coolman: :coolman:

The Kung Pao Chicken. I was happy to see that Folsom Palace serves brown rice. :) The rice was piping hot when they brought it out, contrasted with the lukewarm rice you often get elsewhere. Also, too often restaurants serve only dark meat chicken and they deep fry it. We were very pleasantly surprised to see only white meat and it was stir fried, not deep fried. The chicken was tender and delicious. There was a perfect balance of chicken, vegetables, and peanuts and the dish was perfectly spicy (a good amount of heat without burning) . We liked the variety of vegetables used and the fact that they were perfectly tender crisp.

We felt the prices were just right for the quality and quantity of food served. We can't wait to go back and try other dishes.

I encouraged the owner to come visit us here at MyFolsom and hope she does.

WELCOME TO FOLSOM, FOLSOM PALACE!

We tried to get in at lunch. there were empty tables they couldn't seem to get cleared. no one in the restaurant was talking, not even to each other. we stood there for a long time waiting for the waitress (who was clearly overwhelmed) to seat us. I finally asked other diners how they were doing. One couple said they hadn't had their order taken yet and they had been waiting 10 minutes just since they were given their menus.

We left and went to T2Yuan. We'll be back when they get things sorted out. They're just confused and overwhelmed right now. Nice decor though!

Wow, that sounds like an entirely different restaurant than where we were tonight. Definitely give them another shot.

we definately will. I completely understand the new store learning curve. I know quite a few people on the forum expect restaurant staff to be nearly perfect in the first week they're open, but I'm pretty forgiving. I've been imperfect enough in my life to be patient. we'll go back in a few weeks!

We were there tonight. The food was very, very good. Had vegetable chicken and Singapore Walnut Shrimp. The shrimp were huge, I have never seen shrimp so large except in Asia! Even better than Fats Honey walnut prawns. The war wonton was great too, though I have never found a wonton shrimp I didn't care for.
Wait staff was very friendly, happy to have us as guests. you could tell they put a lot of pride in to the place.

The only thing I would say might classify as a negative - the place seemed unnecessarily fancy. It was definitely a great meal, but for a strip mall it seemed out of place. The decor seemed to match a more formal location, thats all. It's a good place for a date night, as the prices were along the lines of Fats as well.
Check it out and tell them you heard about them on MyFolsom.com!

I stopped by for a small pick-up order this afternoon. Thought the service was excellent, my limited order's food was quite tasty, and I really liked the decor! I loved that it was nice and that it had a great shaded outdoor area too. I will definitely be back!

We went back to Folsom Palace tonight and had another fantastic meal! This time we had the Wor Wonton Soup, Shanghai Xiao Long Bao, and Black Bean Chicken in Iron Plate.

Wor Wonton Soup. Even though it was such a hot day, we've been dying to try their soups and decided to go for it. We've been to too many restaurants that serve a mediocre-at-best wonton soup, with the stock tasting like a chicken danced across a pot of water or tasting like it was made with bouillon -- neither of which was the case here. The stock was superb and tasted like it simmered for hours like mine :). The fact that the shrimp, chicken, and vegetables were cooked perfectly was icing on the cake. The stock makes or breaks it for us and we were thrilled with it. We ordered a small serving, which can easily serve three people as part of a meal. My husband and I each had a small bowl and brought the rest home.

Shanghai Xiao Long Bao (steamed buns). We've both had BBQ bao before, but decided to try something new. This bao has pork, green onions, and black mushrooms and is served with a delicious garlic sauce. The order comes with six bao about the size of large dumplings. Very tasty!

Black Bean Chicken in Iron Plate. This was another branching out item for us; we didn't know what to expect, and we weren't disappointed. The food was stir-fried and brought out on a plate, at which point it was transferred to a hot iron plate at our table -- for the show of the sizzle. The iron plate kept the food hot for a while. The black bean sauce was very tasty. Again, chicken, veggies... everything cooked perfectly.

Service was excellent again. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and competent. Our water glasses were never empty and staff checked in with us from time to time to see how we were enjoying the food. The owner made the rounds and chatted with customers. He is very pleased to be in Folsom and has already had several customers mention that they heard about the restaurant here at MyFolsom.

My husband and I have decided we're going to try something new every time we go in. We have our favorite dishes and tend to always order them, but we want to explore the expansive menu at Folsom Palace.

We're tickled pink to have this great restaurant in town!

My friend and I had Sizzling Rice Soup, Mu Shu Pork, Yu Shang Eggplant in Clay Pot, and the Chef Special Three Ingredients. They do use less oil just as they advertise. We really enjoyed sitting outside in front dining to a candle lighted dinner early in the evening around sunset. The tables outsides were covered with very nice tables clothes and very nice ambiance. They have classical music playing outside and a large flat screen TV visible with sports showing with no outside volume. We enjoyed conversing with a really nice couple with a child who also knew this restaurant through MyFolsom.com.
On a 1 to 5 scale with 5 being the best, the ambiance, quality of food, and excellent service I would rate them at 5.

Folsom Palace is definitely an asset to the City of Folsom just like Chez Danielle and Whole Foods.

Thanks for the good food and the great service.
