Unfortunately, they still talk smack when using their own names. The owner of the Facebook page, 'Folsom Watch' expressed her frustrations at dealing with people flaming each other, often over the silliest things.
Still, these types of sites and services can be really helpful.

There's 1000+ members. Interesting though that its a closed group.

It's a closed group to be sure it's only for Folsom residents and not the multitudes of people from other countries who try and join these groups to spam people.

Someone suggested that I have a myfolsom group page as well. What do you think?

I guess it would serve its purpose for all of the FB junkies out there (yes, I'm guilty, so that's why I said that!), but for those who do not wish to be on FB (like MANY of my friends), I believe myfolsom.com is just fine as is. Your call, Steve.

If you want to grow myfolsom.com into a discussion site. Specific forums still work good for 4x4, guns, hot rods, where people are discussing buildups, have build threads and there is a theme. Here its just random topics. Many people who are busy might be like me and check internet forums once a day. I do in the mornings, while having my breakfast. The rest of the day I am on the go and have my smartphone with me. When killing time onroad or waiting for an appointment I pull out the phone and check email, Facebook, etc... Multiple times a day. Easy to participate in the different buy and sell and chat discussions on Facebook. You can have a myfolsom group on Facebook without getting rid of this. In short order you will probably have 10 times the interaction on the FB page than here though.

I dont know. I haven't determined the value of the Folsom Chat group yet. There are a lot of cross over topics from Folsom Watch & myfolsom, and just other people posting multiple times a day.
I tend to ignore the FB posts, and I certainly ignore the long winded posts on FB (which is usually more than 2-3 sentences).
Doesn't my folsom already have a FB page? how many people use it?

Admittedly, I'm not quite the Facebook expert, though I do use it every day. MyFolsom has a Facebook page which was set up by John.
I think it is a business page rather than a group.
I use it to post things I have on the front page of myfolsom.com as well as some forum posts. People can comment but can't join.
I want to add a group page so people can talk.
When the biz page has been effective has been when promoting a post. For example, I posted an article about the Folsom housing market and 'boosted' it to an audience that included people within 50 miles of San Francisco. Within an hour, I had a call from someone who moved to the Bay Area from Folsom and are now ready to sell the home they left behind, which had served as a rental. They're getting it ready for sale, and I should have it on the market in a couple of weeks.
That's pretty powerful.
That doesn't help community discussion though, and so that's why I'm thinking about the myfolsom group page.

Its free to try it on FB and see how a chat group there works out. With two groups on there already and some things being cross-posted I am not sure if a third Folsom discussion group would be needed, unless you find a way to make it stand out from the other. You are about 3 weeks too late with the idea, as that's when the Folsom Chat group was born. Otherwise you would have a hit on your hands for sure.
