Got mine yesterday. 

 

Never had the flu in the years I've gotten the shot.

 

How about you?

 

If you google, you'll find plenty of articles advising for and against it, what do you think?

I've never had one before. I was about to get the flu vaccine several years ago when the nurse presented me with a document to sign. I suspect most people don't read it, but I did and noticed that the shot contained thimerasol, which I'm allergic to. I've never looked into it since. In researching this issue just now I see that some of the vaccine is prepared in multi-use vials (preserved with thimerasol) and som eis prepared in single-use vials (no need to preserve since once it's opened -- it's used for one person). I suppose if I want it I need to inquire as to whether the vaccine is coming from a multi-use or single-use vial.

Always get one!  I've been doing it for 16-17 years and haven't had the flu in that time.

I get a flu shot every year.  As a general rule I'm a fairly healthy person.  I haven't missed a day of work due to illness in several years.

 

About 20 years ago I got the flu and layed in bed for several days.  At the time I got payed by the hour.  In my delirium I calculated how much money I lost by not working verses what the cost of the flu shot would be for the rest of my life.  Needless to say, I should have gotten the flu shot.  I've never gotten the flu since.  Luck?  Maybe, but I think it is money well spent.

I usually get one but forgot this year.  Guess I'll take my chances...

 

They are not a "scam."  What we're discovering is that they work better among some age groups than others.  If you're middle aged, they are pretty effective.  For the elderly... less so.

In addition, the shot is developed from certain strains of flu -- not all -- and strains mutate. Shots are not guaranteed to prevent all types of flu.

My wife and I both got ours months ago.

Never have...never will.  And I've NEVER been sick (with the flu).

and here is my reason.  I am young enough and strong enough to withstand the flu and want to continue to build my immunity without doing something that might screw up my immune system.  I know four RNs who all say they just don't want to screw with their immune systems, so they dont get it.

It is flawed, but not biased. It's not a scientific poll, and there are probably many other reasons one could cite for their vote. I just put the ones I hear most often. 

 

If someone answers 'yes', I assume it is because they believe in it. 

 

If no, I usually hear one of the reasons listed.

Same here, which is why I can't vote because all the "no" answers don't apply to my reason.
