1. The Worst Food in America of 2009

Baskin Robbins Large Chocolate Oreo Shake
2,600 calories
135 g fat (59 g saturated fat, 2.5 g trans fats)
263 g sugars
1,700 mg sodium

We didn't think anything could be worse than Baskin Robbins' 2008 bombshell, the Heath Bar Shake. After all, it had more sugar (266 grams) than 20 bowls of Froot Loops, more calories (2,310) than 11 actual Heath Bars, and more ingredients (73) than you'll find in most chemist labs.

Rather than coming to their senses and removing it from the menu, they did themselves one worse and introduced this caloric catastrophe. Itıs soiled with more than a day's worth of calories and three days worth of saturated fat, and, worst of all, usually takes less than 10 minutes to sip through a straw.

You could use the shake to wash down the Carl's Jr. Guacamole Bacon Six Dollar Burger.
1,140 Calories, 85 grams of fat, 2010 grams of sodium.

By all means let us vilify restaurants for serving food

I'm thinking that's mg of sodium, not grams....2010 grams would be over 4 pounds. Wouldn't put that past Carl's Jr though.

I don't think they should be villified. I just have a choice as to what I call food. Even a salad can be unhealthy when eating out. Chili's Casear salad has 1,010 calories and 76 grams of fat.

I don't think anyone who goes into an ice cream shop and buys a quart of shake is really expecting health food

You know, that is really nothing compared to what you can hear those 400-600 lb plus obese people talk about eating.

lb of bacon and a dozen eggs for breakfast

whole sheet of lasagne for dinner

I've worked with people in the 300 lb range that would stop for Mcdonalds on their way home from work to eat a Big Mac & fries before they got home to eat the dinner their wife would have waiting for them.
I would rather be Backpacking

That may be true, but at the same token, most folks are not truly educated enough about how much fat, calories, and sodium a specific food item has. If they research a litlle bit, maybe, just maybe, they can make healthier choices or reduce the junk by 35-50%. That reduction may save their lives in the long run and the habits will preserve to the future generations.

It could be wishful thinking on my parth though, but we are spending billions of $$ in ER visits for PREVENTABLE diseases . Some that $$ is going to FREE care for folks that do not have health insurance, so the taxpayers are footing the bill.

I don't like to be judgmental. Lord knows I struggle with my weight. But, setting aside the health issues for a moment, I was always curious how people can afford the food it takes to keep on that much weight. Groceries aren't cheap. I see these stories of people that weigh so much that they are housebound and obviously can't hold a job, and I have to wonder not only who brings them the food, but how do they afford the grocery bill?
