Dude, the assessor has automatically reduced values, and if I remember correctly the way they tried doing it was based on the year the home was purchased, knowing that certain years were overvalued. For those who did not get lowered automatically or who did not agree with the assessment they can appeal. I help homeowners all the time pull comps for them for their appeals.
If you are truly assessed too high, it would be in your best interest to appeal. The county is very specific on the time frame that they look at. It should say somewhere on their site, but I think it is from 1/1/11 to 3/31/11.
