Hey Folks - Once again I'm pressed into service as the volunteer coordinator for the Folsom Cattle Drive and Parade, taking place on July 1.

It's a fun assignment, as you will be positioned along the parade route or at street closures to make sure everyone remains safe and has a good time.

It's more of a numbers thing than a skill thing.

For those who don't know, every year we have the Cattle Drive and Parade down Historic Sutter street, complete with fancy cars, local dignitaries, the Painted Ladies, motocross riders, US Army vehicles, floats, cowboys, cowgirls and more.

It is one of those events that make our city of over 70,000 feel like a small town.

Can teens volunteer?  My son needs some honor society volunteer hours.  He is 15 and might be able to bring a few friends, too.

Hi, for safety reasons, they must be 18 or over.

Folks, I still need volunteers. It's a fun assignment and you get the best seats in the house!

Any word if this is still going to happen? Forcast is for around 110 on wednesday. I know they cancelled last year because of heat. Any talk of that decision being made this year?

Those poor animals. I certainly wouldn't work a horse at 110 degrees.

I agree.  They should cancel it.  not fit for (hu)man nor beast.

They should cancel it....

They should have left it at noon like it used to be.

The forecasters are saying it's supposed to drop back into the mid 90s on Thursday. Still pretty hot.

I sent an email out to the mayor, city council members and the city manager.

To all:  Cancel the scheduled cattle drive down through old town.

It is going to be way to hot for the horses and cattle.

Cancel it.

Calvin May

reply from Evert Palmer, city manager.

Calvin –

Thanks for reaching out.  Safety of the spectators and livestock are a primary concern.  We are working closely with the event coordinator and livestock contractor. –EP.

Thanks for trying, Calvin...but why would we expect The City to all of a sudden start making good decisions?

have you been noticing lately that Folsom is running significantly warmer than Sacramento?  "They" are calling for 108 in Sacramento on Wednesday and 111 in Folsom.  Its three degrees, but that is a big difference.

brace yourself folks.  I'm going to stock up on everything I need for Wednesday and Thursday and work from home!
